Zack is doing very well.  He had 6 teeth removed.  Some were bad but could have waited but we didn't want to have to do this again in 7 or 8 months.  I can get him after 4pm.  He will be eating soft food and some ensure for a while.
Thanks for the good thoughts.  I can truly say I don't want to have to put him under again any time soon.  IT IS TOO NERVE RACKING.

My baby Zack will be needing good thoughts on Tues morning.

He has a bad tooth and is going to have it taken out.  I told them take all that need to be done but don't bother with cleaning the rest. I don't want him under any longer than necessary.

They are just thrilled that I told them I will be sitting in the front office when they do it so they better do a good job with this!!!!!!!

I am really worried because of his age but it is infected and has to come out.

Rays coming for Zack. The anesthesia used for seniors is good. Stormy came through his dental last year at the age of 15 with flying colors.

Good luck to Zack!  If the tooth is infected, he has probably been in some pain.  He will surely come home a happier senior.  We'll be thinking about him.

There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

Toofie rays on the way for Zack - and Mommy, too!  Wow, lots of teeth issues around here - mine need to get theirs cleaned, but it has to wait a month - water filtration unit's valve replacement and all the membranes, filters, and salt ran $505 - sigh!

Thanks for the update, Merion!  I hope Zack's recovery is very fast and smooth!  And I completely understand your desire to avoid putting him under again soon.  NERVE WRACKING INDEED.

Thinking good thoughts for your baby!  I'm sure he will be so happy to be home!

I bet Granny Twinkie was up at Rainbow Bridge watching out for him, probably right along with Zeke and Zelda!!  Although I would NOT be SURPRISED if Twinkie and Zelda were jockeying to be first in line!!

Hard to believe MY only Great Grand doggy is 15 years old now!!   But then he comes from fighting lines!!  Twinkie got through I think 3 surgeries after her vet said she BLEW a heart valve, the last one being removing a toe!  She came through all those surgeries fine!!

Now just so Zack does not decide to be TOO fussy over doggy food. If he does Mommy will just have to give him some people food!!

I know he really enjoyed the strawberries and raspberries he got over the weekend!!

Zack is doing very well.
He did get fussy and wouldn't try the yogurt that I had his pain pill and antibiotic in the first night but ate it in some canned sr. food.
He kind of whines occassionally but I think it is more for attention that his mouth is bothering him.
I have been softening the regular food with water now and putting the canned on top with the pills in it.

Thanks for all the good wishes. We both appreciate them.

You know, sometimes Scooter whines after his surgeries as well.  I was quite distressed about this, wondering if he was in agony and I was not doing anything about it...so I asked the nurse at the Vet Dentist office.  She said that sometimes they will whine as an aftereffect of the pre-anesthetic they are given before surgery.  It's like morphine, or a form of morphine, and she said the woozy/weird feeling of it lingers afterwards and the dogs do not like that, so they whine to fight the feeling - maybe to make themselves feel more alert like a little kid who talks incessantly because they don't want to go down for a nap but are fighting sleep?  Hm.  I need to ask about that part.  But she did reassure me that it was an effect of the drug and not pain that make them cry like that.

Well, and also it can be a bid for attention, especially when it's more than a day after the surgery.  Not that our Dachsies would ever do that, no way.

Glad to hear Zack is doing well!  Continued wishes for a speedy recovery!

Remember to anesthetic does cause some confusion in older people so bet it does the same with our senior doxies!!   Twinkie did ask somewhat spacey a few times after she got her toe really chopped off!

Glad to hear he is doing pretty good. Was tempted to say feed him some of the raspberries or strawberries but the real ones have seeds!!

I wonder if something like a chilled cloth or something for him to suck or chew on might help?  You know like babies teething?
