I let the herd out this morning and there was a commotion in the corner of the fence and I went to investigate and there is Lily with a baby (more of an adolescent) bird in her mouth.  I made her drop it and sent the kids back inside.  The bird was still alive, so I picked it up and set it down on the tree stump in the hopes that it was ok and just stunned.  We went back outside and it was still on the stump, still alive.  I left for work and hope that when I come home it has flown off and I will not find dead bird carcass on the tree stump.  Lily was still mad at me when I left.  She was so proud of her hunting skills and then mommy made her drop it.  I know that it is part of their nature to hunt, but I hate to think of my baby as a killer.   Poor birdy!  :crybaby2:
A day without a dachshund is like a day without sunshine!

Dear Auntie Nikki,

My mom is the same way - once upon a time I was a mighty brown hunter, when I had lots of teeth - and I caught birds now and then.  Once I even jumped up and caught one right out of the air!  I was AWESOME.  But it made my mom sad.  Even though she still told me I was a good boy.  Humans can be very confusing!  But luckily we dogs are very forgiving, so I am sure Lily will not be mad anymore when you get home from work.  Especially if you give her treats to say how very deeply sorry you are.
