Scooter would like to know if anyone has recommendations for soft treats he can send me out to buy for him.  It has now been two weeks since the surgery, and he is no longer restricted to super-soft foods.  But he still has only 3 teeth on top, so I think big crunchy biscuits, or really anything that requires biting, is out.

I thought about small cubes of cheese, or maybe sliced hot dogs.  But I am not sure how healthy these are for him, or how long they will keep in the fridge.  I am going to go to PetSmart and look, but I am also open to buying off the Internet, or even making my own treats.  Any help - especially from those of you who also have toothless (or nearly toothless) Dachsies - would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Scooter: My name is Manny and I'm a long haired pupper in Illinois and had all of my teeth pulled except for 2 of them last year.
My Momma Kelly gets me a treat called Snausages. They are not to hard for me to chew.In fact Momma has to get some more for myself and my 2 buddies!

Hi Noel, Trooper really doesn't chew his food or his treats.  I cut all his treats into small pieces so I don't have to worry about him choking.  His absolute favorite treat I get from Petsmart are Lamb Cuts from Steak House Treat Company.  Bonita and Oscar are crazy about these treats too.

Hi Scooter & Noel!  We used to use a treat at Petsmart called Bil-Jack, I think they were bought out by Mother Hubbard.  They come in a little carton, like the milk we used to get in school.  The treats are little cubes, soft when fresh, and we froze whole cartons of extras to keep them fresh.  Haven't bought them in a while, as Milo is now allergic to the world, and can't have them.  Also, some pro trainers make liver treats, there are several recipes on line for "home-made liver training treats".  Good luck.

So good to "see" you here.  I just lurk these days as I'm swamped with work and family.  Give Scooter a skritch for me, glad he is recovering nicely from his surgery.  Does his tongue stick out?  Giggle.

Sarge and Duggie love Canine Carryouts and they are soft.  They also break very easily into small pieces.  My two go absolutely crazy over these treats -- it's their favorite.   They see the bag and go nuts for them.

As Dee said the Canine Carryouts are soft and you can easily crumble them into small pieces with your fingers.  Petsmart also has a small training treat - shaped like a tiny steak, and it comes in a tall round container... can't think of the name - sorry !

Be very careful on feeding soft treats, read the ingredients so there isn't any BHA , BHT or Ethoxyquin  in it as it causes cancer and is very bad for your dogs. It is a preservative and it's in most soft treats!!!!!!!   Maybe safer to make a small treats from scratch with pumpkin??

Bullwrinkle.com has a ton of recipes treats for dogs then you can always google home made soft treats for dogs to see what comes up.Heck I google everything I'm always amazed at the answers that come up.At least when you make home made treats you know what is in them.Good Luck on your search.

Another yummy soft treat is peanut butter.    Porky has all his teeth, but he is allergic to so much we have to get creative with his treats.  Another good one is the peanut butter treats made by blue dog bakery.   They do not come soft, but if you soak them in some warm water they get really soft.    Porky loved getting that as a treat when he had a dental done last year.    Everybody else has some great suggestions too, so hopefully you'll find something Scooter really likes a lot!

Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful suggestions!  Scooter and I really appreciate them!  So far I've been cutting up string cheese into little discs and using those, but there will be a trip to PetSmart and our local doggy bakery in my near future!

There's also a fancy schmancy treat shop which may have Solid Gold and other brands of food/supplements/treats.  Any suggestions for any of those?

I have moved away from Solid Gold in the past 4 months and now feed Clifford From's Senior Gold.  My cousin who has a dog "boutique" has heard some not-so-good things about SG and missing ingredients.  Clifford actually was losing weight on the SG food.

I'm going to look into this Senior Gold...

wasn't this the "flundenhockn'" or "turduckin"???  do you still give the supplements?  How his Cliffie doin' these days? Give him a kiss for me.

anyway--for soft treats, how about a spoonful of yogurt, or canned pumpkin (keeps 'em regular  :thumb:) or pureed vegetable?

I would switch back and forth on the SG Hund-und-flocken and the beef/barley.  For Fromm's we tried the whitefish/potato, but half way through the 2nd bag he had issues with that (immediate vomiting!!!).  So we got some duck and that is going down nicely.  The Senior is also duck.
