:meme: O.K., all you nice hoomans, mebbe it's not about ALL our pwoblems, but . . .

:comfort: Guinness, honey, can I tell all the Mommys and Daddys?

:sleepy2: Awright, Auntie Karen, it is nap time for me anyway!

:apls: Thank you honey!

There is an article in Dog Fancy magazine about chemicals in the home and their effect on our pets.  I was thinking about the use of floor cleaners, carpet shampoo and steam cleaners, window cleaners and all the different chemicals we bring into our homes and use.

Our pets walk on floors and sit on our furniture constantly and can ingest chemicals when licking their fur.  Now this is not a rehash of the famous Urban Legend about the collie who "died" from licking its paws after walking on a floor cleaned with Swiffer Wet Jet.  The collie never died, there was no collie, Swiffer does NOT contain antifreeze and it is safe for pets and children.  But we seem to have a lot of puppers who have odd allergic reactions and sensitivities.

So double check the chemicals you use to shampoo the carpets, wash the throw rugs, dry clean the drapes, and wash your windows.  Make sure your house is safe for babies and pets - and baby pets and pet babies too!

Very good information Karen!  I couldn't agree more with making sure your home is pet safe and human safe.    I try to use a minimum amount of chemicals in our home as both Porky and I have horrible allergies. Its really scary what some of the ingredients in cleaners can do to humans and pets.

Good advice!  I'm thinking of changing over to Simple Green for cleaning.  Both my girls, especially Bonnie, not only lick their feet but lick the upholstery on the couch.  I'm due for a carpet clean.  I'll have to ask my guy who does my carpet if he can use something that's not so chemically.

There was a message on here about dogs being electrocuted not that long ago. Two dogs in Toronto were electrocted yesterday when they stepped on a steel plate. Please be extra careful with your puppers. Of course Parker wont be going out until it warms up again.

ITA, with everyone else here. Good advice Auntie Karen.  Thanks for the heads up.  Never have too many of those.  :thumb:

Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.

I'm really glad that you brought this up Karen.  I've started to use both Simple Green and various home brewed natural solutions for as much as I possibly can. There are lots of great web sites out there with recipes for everything one could need for housecleaning and gardening and such.  I had a horrible time finding an insect repellent for my outdoor plantings that I felt comfortable with.  The homebrew that I am using works REALLY well and I know that it is absolutely safe for my furkids.  It takes a little effort, but it's worth it and so much better for the environment as well.
