I subscribe to positive training methods, and as you guys know Parker isn't exactly housebroken. We didn't get him until he was 7 months old, and I think he was raised in a kennel, and it became very apparent from day 1 with us, that he doesn't mind urinating in his bed, on his toys, or whenever he needs to go. Sleeping on a urine covered bed was okay with him. We have now had him for about 10 months. He has been keeping his bed clean for the past 6 months, is still doing his business in his xpen but not on his bed, and occassionally on the carpet. We have had no mess for 3 weeks now. I think we are on a roll here.
This is the funny part. Every time he goes outside, or on a peepad I use the words "Good Boy Parker" and make a big fuss over what a good boy he is. I also make a fuss when he is a good boy and doesn't bark out the window, or at guests, or just because he's so darn cute!.
Now when he hears the words "Good Boy" he immediately runs to his pee pad and gets right down to business. I use the prompt "pee" when I want him to do his business, but I think he has latched on to the words "Good Boy".

Dis is Parker: I'm a Good Boy, and I likes all them hugs and kisses, and bwlly wubs.

Just make sure you've always got a pee pad at the ready, just in case, a neighbor tells him he's a "good boy"!

Boy that is a tough one you may have to come up with some other phrase for good behavior odd how dogs pick up on things quickly.I have always taken mine outside to go potty and that is what I tell them have never had one go because I said Good Boy.Hope you can get it straightened out soon like some one said a friend or neighboor saying Good Boy might make for a interesting day.

That is funny.  Cajsa and Gretchen are potty pad trained, but they both started out with a litter box.  When Cajsa was a puppy and was fairly consistent about making it to the 'potty box' as we called it she would follow us to the bathroom and look at us.  I got a little wierded out by it one day and told her to go to her own potty box this one was mine.  She ran to her potty box and peed.  It got to the point I'd tell her I'm going to the potty box and she'd run to hers and potty.  It was entertaining.  She doesn't really do it anymore now that there are pads, but it was cute while it lasted.

Uh-oh!  Well, on the plus side, he's getting it.   :2funny: I have always taught the command "hurry" to Porky so in the cold he hurries and gets his business done so we can go back inside.   So, we have to be real careful saying that around our house.
