Mom is going to babysit a couple of birds over Christmas.  The neighbors are going away to warm country and asked mom to babysit their two birds.  They will actually be over here in our house.  They are a variety of parakeet that are about 8 inches "tall".  Wow, this will be a treat for us, we will probably be staring at them the entire time they are here.  And mom said no way are they coming out of their cage, she doesn't want us to get them, I guess.  Mom used to have parakeets and is really looking forward to having them at our house.  We are like...... :meme: and .  We haven't been around birds before.

:thinik: Reminds me of a true story:

30 years ago our next door neighbor asked my husband and I to bird sit their white parrot - small, friendly, and complete with big round cage and bird food.  He and my husband are both in the Navy, and the neighbors are taking 30 days leave to visit family and friends in Upper Peninsula, Michigan.  We gladly say yes, even though I have a phobia about birds.

Day one:  Patrick arrives for his 30 day stay.

Day one plus 30 minutes:  our cat, Buckwheat, spies the bird in the cage.

Day one plus 30.5 minutes:  Buckwheat launches herself at the cage and wraps her four paws around the circular cage.

Day one plus 30.75 minutes: Patrick drops dead.

Day one plus 35 minutes:  After unsuccessful CPR on Patrick, husband decides to put dead bird "on ice" until neighbors return.

Days two through 29:  Karen refuses to open freezer door.

Day 30:  Neighbors return.  Retrieve cage and accessories.  Bird carcass is removed from freezer. Final disposition of carcass never mentioned.  Neighbors appear calm, but move within 45 days to undisclosed location.

Maybe the birdies will teach you guys to sing!  And let's not have a story like Karen's.  How terrible

PattyInAK

We will NOT have a story like Karen's!

Doxherding Karen

Of course you won't: the boys legs are too short to reach around the cage!

AND . . . they're too short to jump up there!! :headbang:

Have fun with the birds, boys!!   They really are neat!!  I had a cockatiel when I met Philip, and he had a Rottie!!   Keno didn't hurt her, but one day when I left her cage open for her to roam (I did this on a daily basis), I heard her squaking up a storm, I go running in the living room, and there she is under the chair with Keno jumping at her trying to play!!!!!!  And, the funny thing is she wasn't squaking because she was scared, she was playing with him too...       :dontknow:         She was jumping at him like he was her....  It was funny after I seen what exactly was happening...   But, just to be safe, I was more cautious about leaving her cage opened and unattended after that..   But, Keno would sit at the shelf, looking at her cage, just waiting for her to come out and play...        :2funny:
