Marcia from MI

For the last few weeks Eddie has seemed to be a bit under the weather, lethargic, nervous, not hungry, etc.  So yesterday it all came to a head when he got only part way out the back door before he peed.  That was enough for me so I made an appointment with Dr Cindy and off we went at 3:00.  After an exam and consultation it was diagnosed that Eddie is suffering from old age(he'll be 14 in January) and is losing his cognitive skills.  So Dr Cindy put him on some new meds  to see if they will help, but we won't know for a few weeks.

Eddie has been out of sorts since Sam went to the bridge, but he really has been getting to me when we go to bed and he sits there staring at the door and the hallway.  He's been with me since he was 10 months old and I want him around forever.  The bright side is he still insists on helping when its my mealtime especially when its a veggie sub from Subway.

We go into this relationship knowing they will only be with us temporarily but it doesn't make it any easier when they start showing signs of aging. Here's hoping the new med works for him. Sending rays for both of you.

Roberta

Age is a dreadful thing, but I keep what Nick says in mind when I do the worry thing.................they are allowed to have off days. Eddie hope the meds help. This brings to mind a article that was in the radio the other day that research says that dogs, cats and horses are capable of showing signs of emotion and, frustration, loss and embarisment. We could have told them that............but maybe Eddie is grieving still a little bit.

I can't stand to think of Eddie not feeling well, I hope too the meds will help him a lot and soon. Please keep us posted and I'll chime in with the rest, if only we could keep them forever or at least for a lot more years than the obscenely few we get and then only if we are lucky! I have a feeling Eddie isn't planning on going anywher for a good long time though.

It's so hard to watch them start to lose things as they age. Been down that road too many times. Many rays coming for Eddie - I hope the medication helps him. He'll have good days and bad probably. Be thankful for the good and help him through the bad.

Well, Auntie Barb, gettin' old is hell, but it sure beats the alternative!!

You know, I put ceramic tile in this house so I wouldn't worry when Guinness doesn't make it to the yard - which is almost all the time!

It's a small price to pay for the love and devotion he gives me.
