I took Hallie to the dermatologist today to look at her black spot under her tail, I was just hoping he might be able to identify it and put my mind at ease since my vet here felt it was nothing. But he is worried it is a melanoma and he took her back and did surgery to take it off and send it for a biopsy. I wasn't prepared for my baby to have surgery today. She is very groggy and laying in my arms right now her little eyes are soaking wet and she has stitches in her little bum. I of course am beside myself terrified, this has been such a bad year for both of us. We could use some rays for her it will be about a week before we get any results.

Mega rays and prayers on their way to Hallie and Dee Dee....don't worry Dee Dee, it is good she got in as soon as she did and he did surgery right away.  If it is something, I am sure he got it all and there is nothing to worry about....ok????  I know you are frantic but it is great that you have gotten it taken care of....Hallie will be okay...I am sure of it

Thanks cheryl actually all he did was remove the spot if it comes back "bad" then she'd have to undergo a more radical surgery to take alot more tissue, it is at 5 oclock on her little anus so that would be hard on her. I am praying hard it will be OK but it will be a long week waiting.

I've been involved with doing surgeries like that.  The vet almost always gets everything (the only reason they don't is because it wasn't clear where the edge was or something like that) so it's not as big a deal and it means the animal doesn't have to be put under again.  Hopefully it'll be nothing, but it's always good to get them checked.  From my experience they are generally nothing to worry about unless there have been other tumors removed already.  Hallie hasn't had any issues like that and at her age, she probably would've had something show up if she was prone to them.

I'm so sorry Dee Dee! Rays and prayers headed you and Hallie's way! I know it is easier said than done, but try to stay calm and not to worry too much. I know you caught this really early so that is a huge plus! You are such a great mom!

I just keep thinking of the weeks we waited and watched it because my vet said she didn't think it was anything. Then this last time she said it looked bigger to her and I couldn't stand it anymore so took her to the dermatologist. I am never going to make it to next week I am SO sick of waiting for test results and being terrified in the meantime! It's just a nightmare. Poor girl is still groggy and out of it and seems like her throat hurts and she seems pretty sore on her feet and she keeps looking around at her bum.

Thank you for that April. You have seen black, flat spots on dogs anus's before then like this and they turned out fine? If Hallie's comes back bad she will have to have an additional, worse surgery than today because today they just lasered off the spot didn't get any borders or extra tissue or anything. I can't believe this is happening especially now when it rains it pours I guess.

  I'm so sorry to hear about this!    We're praying that it is nothing and that Hallie will feel better really soon!!      If you need to talk we're all here for you.   Hope this week flies by!!  It seems like a lot of us have had a hard year, but you and Hallie definately deserve a break.   Stay strong, we're thinking of you!

Know I'm wasting this but try not to make your self sick and worry too much it will not help Hallie and it will not help you. Thanks you guys, she was pretty groany last night she would push her little feet against me and moan. I spent most of the night scratching her back and rubbing her belly. I think her feet were bothering her the most. But she is feeling great this morning, you would't know anything was done to her which makes me feel a lot better! She went out to potty and came racing in as usual, has been barking out her window at the neighbor cat, ate like a little champ and seems pretty much normal. I am so used to the usual crating, keeping them quiet, etc after back episodes that I have to keep reminding myself it's OK for her to run. She's laying in a sun spot right now. I just have to watch she doesn't try to take her stitches out. It will be a long week waiting for results but I feel a whole lot better seeing her feel herself today.

We are so glad Hallie is feeling so much better.  We will be sending rays and prayers to her and you, DeeDee.

My Daisy-Angel had a similar tumor removed from the same general area.  It was benigh.  And, thank God, it never grew back.  We pray Hallie will have the same results.

Thanks for asking about her, she seems a bit off this morning which of course scares me but maybe it's just hitting her now. Seems with the major surgeries on my dogs in the past it is usually days 3-5 when they would be their worst so maybe that is what is happening here on a smaller scale. A friend of mine said when her husband had a melanoma taken off they were told they are always bad...so I am in a new anxiety range today!

Annie what did Daisy-Angel's look like, how big, was it round, flat, raised, black? Where was it exactly? I wish I had taken a photo of Hallies, I had no idea it was coming off that morning so thought I had time. Hers was at 5 oclock on her anus, black, oval about the size of this zero 0 which looked pretty big on her tiny little bum. It was away from her little opening and I've read that if it is at the mucocutaneous junction it is worse but I'm not sure exactly where that junction starts. Hallie's was flat but the dermatologist said he thought it was raised a bit at the edges and it had gotten a little larger which scares me. Man I hate this stuff.

Thanks, the more I google the more scared I get. I'm at a new level tonight duh you'd think I'd learn but I keep searching desperately for encourging news to help me feel better. Usually the oppostie happens. This wait is just excruciating.

Quit Googling just upsets you then Hallie picks up on you being upset usually in those cases of a spot being removed you can google til you are blue in the face and you still have to wait for the biopsy.No matter what you do you still have to wait for the biopsy get a good book and get into that. You would have to go to medical school then take extra classes in Dermatolgy  then you would still have to wait for the biopsy like your doctor is doing.I went though the same thing when Gizmo had her bump removed from her little butt  you just have to keep your self busy with other things till you get the report back. Hi DeeDee, I don't remember much about Daisy's tumor as it was removed back in June 1998.  She was 4-1/2 years old.  It was raised and black. It's shape was oblong, maybe a half inch.  It was located right on her pee-pee (a layman's medical term).  After surgery, it took Daisy a few days to get back to normal.  It never returned.  Daisy was 13 years old when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

I was so scared at first and thought the worst, but the vet never thought it was cancer and the biopsy proved him right.  I pray Hallie's is the same.
