My mama left me!

Sorry I haven't been 'porting da last few days.  My mama left me on da 2nd.     I still don't know why but she didn't come back till last night!   I neber gab her my permission to do dat!    She was eating some breakfast and den we sat dow to watch tv.  Den her lips got big and my hoogwandma grabbed me, shoved me in my kennel, (NOT FAIR!!)   and dey left.   My gwandma came home, but my mama didn't.            I heard da hoomans saying somefing about an allergy dey didn't know existed before.   My daddy came home dat night and snuggled me and said sorry dey don't 'llow doxies in da hospital.      

All I know is I'm happy now dat my mama is home!  I won't stop licking her.     And, don't worry, her lips aren't big anymore.   :apls:     

Hi everyone!   Sorry we haven't been on for a few days.  I ate breakfast on the second and started having an allergic reaction.  We weren't sure what was causing it and it was getting really bad so we went to the ER.  I ate cereal and a banana for breakfast so I had no idea why that would cause my lips and throat to swell.   Once we got to the ER they gave me some medicine to stop the reaction and wanted to watch me for a few hours.   

Later that afternoon, they decided that since we were unsure of the cause they wanted me to stay and get tested on the 3rd to see what caused it.   We didn't want it to happen again.    So on the third they tested me for various ingredients in the cereal I ate. I didn't have any reaction to those so that afternoon they tested the bananas.   Bingo!!   

Apparently, I have become allergic to bananas.     I have eaten them a lot and never had any problems.   My reaction was so bad they wanted me to spend the night to make sure I was okay.   Then I finally got to come home yesterday afternoon, with an epi pen and strict instructions to get rid of all the bananas in our home.     It was a very scary experience and I'm thankful i had such great doctors.   I am still itchy and have to take prednisone for a few days to get over this all.   Who knew eating a banana could cause so much drama?!

Good gosh I had no idea you could develope allergies like that as an adult. I am glad you are OK. But what a scare. I know you are allergic to several things but are you allergic to a lot of other foods?

Amazing that an allergy could pop up so quickly !  Glad you got there fast and that they were able to figure it out !!!  No more nanners for you !

Wow, I had no idea you could become allergic to bananas and they would have that effect on you......Glad you are okay!!!!  Are you allergic to any other foods Amorette?

No I am not allergic to any other foods.  The only allergies I was aware of prior to this were, an allergy to bees, cats, and environmental allergies.     It is possible since I am allergic to so many things for new ones to just pop up like this.  I was taking shots for my allergies but stopped after three years because my allergies were not improving at all and I was tired of getting 6 shots a week.   I have never had a quick reaction like this before, but usually with food allergies, (depending on the severity) they will pop up anywhere from immediately after the contact to hours later. 

I think I will be okay, but I'm kinda paranoid about another allergy popping up.  Usually my allergies manifest themselves, as sneezing and itchy eyes, so it was shocking when this happened.  I guess this is just Porky's and my year for bad allergy problems.       A lot of other people have been having problems with their allergies in our area this spring and summer.  The allergist I go to said he doubts I will get develop any more food allergies, but that I should be careful and keep a diary of what I eat, just in case.

Glad you made it to the hospital quickly sorry Porky but your Momma had to leave fast they say the older you get the more stuff you can be allergic too at least that is what I have been reading.
Good Luck maybe no more allergy's for either of you you both have had your share for this year.

I wonder if it could have been something in the cereal?  My daugter Loretta has allergies to nuts and she has to be really careful about anything cooked in Peanut Oil.  She used to eat nuts all the time and then right out of the blue, at 25, she had a horrible reaction... much like the one that you had with the swelling.  She said that she resembled a pug because she was so swollen, bless her heart.  The doctor has told her that typically the next reaction will be worse so please take care of yourself!  Our sweet little Porky-Pie needs his mama at home!

Thanks Terri and Laura!   I am doing great now, thank goodness!    Terri, we tested every ingredient in the cereal, bananas, nuts, shellfish, and pretty much every food allergy they could test for.  The only one that caused a reaction was the bananas.  Nut allergies are VERY common so that's what we originally thought it was until after the testing.   I figured after they got done testing each of the cereal ingredients and the bananas, that they might as well test for the other food allergens.  What's a few more pokes, when you are already more "holey" than a pincushion?      We just wanted to make sure they weren't more new alleriges popping up on us.
