Here's what we had to deal with yesterday. http://www.kneb.com/news/index/bdea1740-0c01-4cd1-b3cf-4df3e86c9eae.   Thankfully, Porky was safe at my mom's house in another town when this storm hit our house.

I had quite the scare yesterday afternoon!     My husband was in Alliance for work and had to do an overnight. When he does that, I usually go up and meet him at the motel he is staying at.  The main reason is because when he finishes his route at 10 or 11 pm all the rooms are already full.

Anyway....I was sitting in my room, using the computer when all of a sudden I hear this train whistle sounding over and over again.  At first I thought there was an accident at the Railroad or something.  I got up look out my window and see people running out of the stores into there cars and pointing at the sky.  Um...NOT A GOOD SIGN!   Then the phone in my room rings and the front desk was telling me since I was lucky enough to have a basement room to take all my bedding, pillows, and my identification with me and get into the bathtub.  they also said if someone knocked on my door, they would be sharing my bathtub shelter until the end of the storm.     I'm not ashamed to say I unplugged my laptop, grabbed all the stuff I needed and ran to the bathroom.   As I ducked and covered under my blankets and pillows, I wondered how long I would have to stay there.   Then my phone rang again and they told me the tornado just went back up and everything was fine now.

Right after I hung up I went and looked outside to see the damage and saw a huge wall of circling dust right by my window.    Don't worry it wasn't the tornado, just a huge dirt devil caused by the 80 mile an hour winds!!!!!!!!!!!

My in-laws live out at the Lake Minatare area and are all okay Thank goodness!    Their house was not damaged at all in the storm.    However, the status of our house and little kittens is unknown.   We haven't been able to drive out there yet because of downed trees and power lines.  I am very worried that when I do get out there this afternoon, we won't have a roof or garage anymore.   I can deal with the loss of all our stuff from water damage, etc.... But, I can't deal with losing our little kittens.   Porky loves them a lot. I just hope they are okay.   :xfinger:  I will keep you all posted as soon as I find out.

For now, my husband is still working in Alliance and I am at my mom's snuggling my baby.  Thankful he wasn't hurt.      My husband and I plan on staying with my mom and dad at least for tonight.  Once I go check out the damage we'll know for sure how long we'll be staying with my parents for sure.   I have to go check in an hour and I am dreading it.   I have to go out there alone since my hubby is at work, so if I have to sit and cry I'll do it before I drive back to my parent's house.

I'm prepared for the worst and hoping for the best.      The area we live in was mentioned in one of the articles as the worst hit area.

Well, we can all sigh a sigh of releif.  There was not much damage to our house at all!  There was a BIG branch that fell on top of the house, and another branch on top of the garage.  (aka the kitty's house)   Luckilly the branches did no damage to our roof or the garage.   :apls:  I opened the garage door to check our kittens and could only find one.  I got really worried since we had debris all over our yard.   We found the other kitten snuggled up in one of the cabinets fast asleep.

After I checked them I went and did a walk-through of the house. One of the basment windows had shattered, so when I opened the side door and looked down the stairs, I could see that the door downstairs was open. (we always close it)   There was no water damage down there, just a bunch of leaves.   I boarded up the window and checked upstairs. Everything upstairs was just fine.   :apls:

The only really scary that happened was where we always park our car, there was a HUGE shipping crate laying upside down. Where the crate came from, I have no idea!   It said Made in Taiwan on the side so maybe it blew in from there?!    :2funny: Had we had our car or pick-up parked there, it would have been totalled.   Also our wooden fence that goes on both sides of our driveway (to keep snow off the drive) was snapped in multiple places. It was weird to see huge wooden posts, just shattered by the wind.

I'm really thankful that everything was okay.  No major damage anyway.  We took a drive around the lake where the tornado hit and saw lots of damage!      I'm just really really glad we weren't home.  I do have to call the power company to remove the branch on the garage since it is on a live power line. But, I'm thankful that is all the damage we got.

I am so glad everything was okay when you got there. I know you were relieved. Hopefully this is the end of tornado season for you.

Glad to hear that everything is ok at your house...   That is scary!!!   We had them winds Sunday evening, blew down trees, power poles & tried stealing our for sale sign in our yard...   We luckily kept our power, but alot of people didn't...    I heard the winds were 80 mph, that was just crazy for here!!!   I am surprised our giant maple is still standing...  Then we woke up Monday morning to freezing weather, then it started snowing!!!!   BRRRRRRR    Glad your kitties are ok, Porky Pie...   EmmyLou sends kisses...

We got the cold weather too!   It didn't snow though.   That is nuts!!   I am hoping this colder weather will kill off all the weeds and stuff that are bugging my allergies right now.  They have been awful this year for me, my husband, and Porky.   I think we are Benedryl's best customers. Wonder if we could get a special discount since our entire household uses the stuff.   :2funny:

I'm really glad your house was okay when those crazy winds went through there.  Did you guys have any warning?  Our storm literally came out of nowhere!  It was sunny and warm one second and the next the sky was black and it was blowing like crazy!  Porky sends kissies right back to Miss Emmy Lou!

MyLittleBoo

Nope, no warning at all...   Sunny skies, 80 degrees at 4:30 p.m., then at 5:00 the clouds were flying in, started with some really big raindrops, then within a matter of seconds, the winds hit....   It was creepy the way it happened...  But, I am a big chicken when it comes to wind...   When I was 4 we had a tree branch break right through our window, and land where my little brother & I were sitting only minutes before...  If we hadn't of sat and bugged our mom for a cookie until she gave in, who knows how that would of turned out...   So, them high winds scare me....   Give Porky some belly rubs for me....
