Well I was doing well there for a bit. But it wasn't meant to be. I have been down for the last couple of weeks. Pain has gotten worse and still not sure what it is. The docs are coming up with anything and everything. They think they have it then I am down again. The latest came today when my doctor's nurse called and said that they think they might have finally found the problem. They think I am not absorbing any nutrients. Which explains why I have a Vitamin D count of 9 right now. It was back up to 36 a couple of weeks about but went back down. So basically I can barely move and am having a very hard time doing the daily routine. Of course the my 3 wonderful pups have been keeping me in good company and not getting into trouble. Scott has gotten into the routine of getting the pool ready for me everyday that he can so I can get some Vitamin D directly from the sun and the pool helps me with the pain a bit. Well he does that when it isn't storming anyway so that means I can get in the pool maybe once a week!

Just wanted to let everyone know what is going on in case anyone was wondering why I have been very sporatic with the board. I miss everyone!

Thanks Barb. The latest is that they want to take a biopsy from my stomache to see if that is the case. Which sucks because I can't take locals and they will have to put me to sleep. But hopefully they will finally find something. This back and forth stuff is driving me insane!!  :verdict:

you may need vit D tablets I was way below and the dr told me at  low levels sun is not enough. Biopsy of the somtach may not require a full knock out just a sedative to relax you as they have to have you semi awake to put the tube down, I had it a few years back. Plus some Vit require as in Vit D fat to get them accross the gut wall. Get well son have they thought of Ross River or mono as it hits everyso often, my sister had both the same time and everyso often she  gets hit for six.
Note to everyone, my Dr was saying last week taht in Australia at least 1 in 2 people are Vit D defient due to being in building away from natural light at work, so they now do levels when they do PAP smear and prostate checks

BE SURE TO TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR AND HAVE YOUR LEVELS MONITORED!!

VITAMIN D is not water soluble, it is fat soluble, so if you take mega doses, you will develop Vitamin D toxicity.

It's important to get enough, but not TOO MUCH! :sad4:

Thanks for the help. I have been on Vit D for a while, just not working, along with other supplements. I had mono really bad in high school, a year and a half actually, and since then I haven't been the same. I can pretty much eat nothing but high fat foods and my cholesterol is still low, at one point it was only 7! So who knows what is going on there. Plus I can't have the local sedatives because I am allergic to them. They will have to put me to sleep for that. So that is another problem. I was given a Vitamin B12 booster shot and the next day they drew blood and couldn't find any in my system.

Karen, I am watching the level of D that I am taking. I only take 100 a day. There has been no talk of anymore right now till they figure out what is wrong. I think I am a doctors worse nightmare, I question everything!!

Thanks again for the help. When it doesn't make my arms hurt so bad I will post more. Typing really makes them feel as though my muscles are being wrung out.

It sounds like a great idea to get some sun.  I know what you mean about the sun once a week thing though!  Good grief, its been storming here every night this week!   I really hope the doctors can figure out what is going on.  It seems ridiculous that it is taking this long to figure out.    :comfort:   I think Roberta had  good idea to check and see if it's a mono related thing.  My friend in high school had it really bad and has to get her liver checked twice a year to make sure everything is okay.

I wish I lived closer, then I could help you out with your puppers.   Its great that Scott has been helping you out!  Sending rays your way!!      Keep us posted as often as you can.

Wouldn't it be interesting if you could see if a week somewhere that it is sunny everyday (S.C. here lately, but the humidity would drive you away) would make a difference. Of course, you would have the expense of time off and having to go somewhere, but it would be interesting to see what happened. I'm sure you wouldn't mind the vacation, either, but I'm really thinking of the health part of it. Things like this make the curious part of my brain work overtime and I start with all the "I wonder...." thoughts!

Yes I would love to be on a beach right now!!

I have done some more research this morning. And this actually may be the culprit!!

Celiac disease (also known as celiac sprue or gluten-sensitive enteropathy) is a digestive and autoimmune disorder that results in damage to the lining of the small intestine when foods with gluten are eaten. Glutens are a form of protein found in some grains. The damage to the intestine makes it hard for the body to absorb nutrients, especially fat, calcium, iron, and folate.

Now I have gone through bouts for almost 20 years now. It states further into the article that people with this disease also have other autoimmune problems like thyroid. So if this is the case then we have a winner!! All of it fits now. It has been brought up in the past that I might have a bad reaction to glutin but then I would eat pizza with out a problem, or a sammy or something else and no flare up. So we never gave it much thought. It can be caused by a viral infection too. Isn't mono a viral infection? That would explain a lot!! I may have a light at the end of the tunnel. Now how do I live with a glutin free diet? Does anyone here have to go by the diet? It looks like all the fun food is gone!! But what ever I need to do to feel better I will.

Thanks for all the help!! So how do I get work to believe that taking more time off to get to a beach would be a health issue?  :thinik:

Well if you tell your boss you have a serious Vitamin D deficiency and get your doctor to write a note reccommending the beach time, it just might work.     I never even thought of celiac disease.   :doah:  I know a family who has a son with it, so maybe I could talk to them about what he can and can't eat.  I'm hoping that's what it is because it would  be an easy fix for you.   Granted, losing your favorite foods would stink, but it would be worth it.

You don't really have to be full blown Celiac disease there are mild variances there are tests they can do for it. The other gastric is irritable bowel syndrome. some Vit shots can have a itchy reaction. The B12 also has a synogistic effect with Folic acid and some other co-enzymes. B12 is taken into the gut at the ilium and gastric illnesses can cause malabsoption. Have they thought of malabsorption sysdrome.
