Oh Patty, we´re so sorry not to catch up on you and surgery earlier, we´ve been out of action for quite a while too.  I know you have my email, if I can be of any help or info let me know.  You´re still invited for that sunny recovery in Spain too, whenever.

You may remember I had a multiple arthrodesis = multiple titanium reconstruction of my lower spine from pelvis up to bra-strap level, and have 4 hernias in the cervical region which will eventually get the same job done.  Necessity has made me an "expert" on pain and movement management - not to mention how to gourmet cook without lifting of standing too long.....and the "joys" of MBT´s and Earth shoes to walk in after surgery.

I understand how frightening this is and how awful the pain is right now, the ops are not easy but the pain/pressure relief is worth everything.  Slowly does it and take special care with the rehab.

Life somehow goes on and often works out better even if the disability stuff doesn´t - I hope it´s easier for you in the US of A than in Spain - I have partially paralized hands due to my spinal injuries, the aforesaid titanium reconstruction internally, 4 cervical hernias and worsening, osteoarthritis of the spine, dizziness because of the pressure on the spinal cord and loads of pain still BUT didn´t get disability even after paying in well over 25 years!

Result= gave up worldwide consulting, joined forces with Miguel in his architectural studio, became full-time Mum to Red and Islay and learnt that I love my husband even more now I see him more, don´t miss my "real" work (much anyway) and could spend all day every day just cuddling Red and Islay.  I still get angry about not getting disbility benefit, but try to forget it, the 3 years of trying for it were too exhausting to explain.  I sincerely hope you get full sickness befits through and get back to what you want to do afterwards - either full work or semi-rest, whatever suits you both best.

I know Dan is an Angel and takes great care of you, but Willy and Alex will be a great cuddle comfort after your surgery too, I´m sure they won´t want to leave your side.

We´re crossing paws, fingers and everything else thinking of you and praying all will go speedily and comfortably for you, be gentle on yourself,
all our love from the Mediterranean coast of Spain

Just make sure Dan doesn't get mixed up and ask them to do toe choppies and an anal gland expression while you are under.

I'm so glad you finally have an answer. Now it's all forward motion from here. Hopefully just a few more days and the awful pain will be only a memory.
