Schatzi will be having her "big girl" surgery tomorrow, finally. She is 4 now and every time we had planned to have her surgery something major happened and it didn't get done. I'm off work this week, so it is the perfect time. With us moving to the house in 3 weeks, she will be outside more (in a fenced yard) without being leashed, so there was no way that was happening without her being spayed first! Between that and the health reasons for spaying, I made her appointment and everything is set for tomorrow morning. She'll stay overnight and I'll pick her up on Wednesday. The part I hate most is the overnight since I'm not sure how she will do by herself. She has always had Molly with her when she has been away from us. We have discussed it and they will make sure she is kept calm while she is there. I plan to tell them tomorrow that if they can't keep her calm, send her home! Meg says it's interesting that I'm more worried about her being alone there than I am about the surgery itself. I guess it's because I know she'll do okay with the surgery, it's afterward I can't predict.
So, Schatzi can use the rays and prayers and I'll try to stay calm and keep you updated. I have several errands to do during the day to keep busy with, and then there is always the packing-lots of packing!

Rays coming from Texas for you 2. I agree with you...the worst time for her will be when she wakes up. I don't want to put anymore worries in your head than you already have, but have you asked if the facility is staffed 24 hours? It's been a long time, but when we got one of ours spayed (I can't remember which one), they wanted to keep her overnight also. I asked if they were staffed at night and they said no. I told them she would be better off at home with us than in a strange place by herself and they had no respone. They agreed to let me pick her up right before they closed.

On the other hand, when Ilsa had her knee surgery, she stayed overnight. This was a 24 hour facility and we made sure of that by dropping in at around midnight. Anyway, Ilsa was glad to see us but was very groggy and I bet she was never really aware of what was going on, therefore, not really as scared as I has envisioned her to be.

As scary as it is to take a perfectly healthy girl in for this surgery, there as so many upsides to having it done! And...they pop back fast!

Hear are  :pray:s and healing rays from Tennesse for your baby girl.  I know everything will go well for her.  And I agree with Delia about making sure they are staffed 24 hrs.

I'm thinking along the lines you are, Delia. My plan when I take her in tomorrow is to ask if they have someone there at night. I know they like to keep them to make sure they stay confined, also, but I would feel better knowing that someone was around if she were to have problems. When I had Kendall-angel spayed, she came home the same day, but she was just a little over a year old at the time. I do know we had a tough night. She just didn't rest well, but was good the next morning.
I'm just glad I have several things to be doing and won't be sitting home just waiting on a call. I'll be sure to post as soon as I find out anything.

Lots of rays for Schatzi & you too Teresa!!
When Delilah had her "puppy making machine" (DH's catch phrase, not mine) removed, they sent her home that night.  We put an air mattress on the floor and slept as a family.  Like you mentioned with Kendall-angel, we had a rough (ruff?) night and woke up in some Dee-pee but she did well the next day. Doxies are resilient and I'm sure she'll be OK in no-time!

Rays accoming, but she will be home with you I think. When Amy was in for her back surgery I was glad it was the big emergency vets as they had people their all night. Plus when I have to get them sedated, I hold them for the first relaxation one and am their when they wake up. Roberta
