OK since it is nice out now have been taking the dogs walking with me on the scooter we are up to 5 miles that is what we did today went around the Fairgrounds I bet Patches did at least 3 miles. We have been going almost everyday the only time we do not go is when it is raining. Today we stopped at the vets Patches GAINED a pound I just do not understand it she is on diet dog food has been over a year. Had her Thyroid checked it is OK last month at the vets they did a Dental sent home some dentahex oral care chews for small dogs. Patches usually gets one every other day or so they are rawhides wonder if that would cause her to gain weight going to call the vets in the morning and ask them. The vet wants me to give Patches the new dog diet pill that is out I was trying not to do that since they are new.I was feeding 1/4 cup diet dog food in the am & pm going to knock it down to 1/8 of a cup I guess Patches is always looking for food also will eat worms, poop, & anything else she can find. I also have been thinking of buying a muzzle to put on her for when she goes outside but hate to do that because it is so HOT here in summer.Patches also gets green beans not too happy with them but she eats them also Pumpkin sometimes about once a month about a Table spoon of scrambled egg only because she is crazy for them. For treats she gets one cube of the freeze dried liver after I brush her teeth sometimes 1/2 of the new blueberry treats if I'm giving Buddy some I try not to give her any treats at all since she is over weight. I have told her Daddy do not give her any thing may have to crate her when we eat just to make sure he is not sneaking her any thing.Sorry this is so long just really frustrated to no end.

I may be wrong here, but I was ask the vet about the food amount. If it is already the diet food, the calories are less. 1/4 cup twice a day doesn't sound like too much to me, especially with her walking that much right now. My fear would be her searching out and finding food she isn't really supposed to have. With the diet food, increase in exercise and not too many treats, I would think there would have to be some health reason for a 1 lb weight gain. For once, I don't think it's the doxie or owner's fault!

Not sure if this is true for dogs, but its true for hoomans....Muscle mass weighs more than Fat, so if she's gaining new muscle mass maybe that can account for the weight gain. I'm not a vet though, but I figure if its true in hoomans, it might be the same for dogs.   :dontknow:  Keep doing what you are and ceck her weight next month, it should go down I would think.  Keep us posted!!   Sounds like you and Patches are doing a great job to slim her down.    :apls:  Keep it up!!!  You are not at fault for the 1 pound weight gain.

Are all Dachshunds hungry all of the time like Patches she is not a Dachshund she is a little vacuum cleaner with feet???? Not sure how much she is suppose to weigh do not think she is a Minnie I think she is a tweenie because the people I got her from talked like one of her parents was a standard small and the father a Minnie if I remember right. They were not very good breeders BYB I think I got Patches at 16 weeks she had not been seen by a vet nor had any shots yet.I do know Patches has a small head and a big body??? of course she may be out of two different sized parents and got the head of one & the body type from the other??? I may not know what I'm talking about. I do know you cannot feel her ribs that is suppose to be the way they can tell if a dog is over weight.??? Hope to get a Treadmill one of these days that way when it is raining, or HOT we could all exercise on that Buddy to wear him out Patches to loose weight & me for my Diabetes. To get one long enough for Buddy they are expensive so far I have not seen one in my price range.I'm not suppose to be out in the sun allot with the medications I'm taking too have a little house so old man will not be happy about a treadmill in the house.

Papbouv, I too think it sounds like you are doing everything right :thumb:  Doxielady has a point....it could be muscle mass....or.....maybe daddy is sneaking in some treats :thinik:

It's hard to tell what she should weigh without seeing her.  What has your vet told you she should weigh?   Porky would eat all day if I let him.  He's a vacuum cleaner too!   I have learned to be very strict about how much he gets fed everyday and I let everyone know that sneaking treats to him is NOT okay.   It sounds like you are really trying hard to help her lose the weight.

The treadmill thing is a good idea except I would be concerned about the space it would take up and the cost.  Is there anyone in your area that walks dogs?  Maybe you could try hiring someone to walk your dogs everyday for you????  :dontknow:  I'm not sure what someone would charge for that though.   Good Luck and keep up the hard work!!

Patches is going to be happy if everyone keeps saying her daily kibblr can stay the same. Daddy's snacks may be another issue, but kibble is good stuff.

Poor Patches....it does seem a lot of doxies are perpetually "starving". Hallie is with Patches, she thinks about food constantly and is hoovering the ground or floor all the time. I think it's because we have to feed them so little to keep their weight down. Really sucks! I hate to think of them hungry...but the repercussions of overweight are even worse. You are doing a great job with Patches according to your last post! :thumb:

my dog bruno is an active dog he has been on diet food for a year now he doesn't walk any where near what your dog walks however everytime i bring him to the vet he gains more and more weight i just don't know what to do with him any more when he was a pup i did give him some human food but when i realized that he was getting fat i stopped giving him any kind of human treats they only thing that i can think that put weight on him was since he has been netured he doesn't run around as much as he used to. but now the summer is back i think he is starting to loose weight so i am going to try super hard to get all that access weight of him because i would hate to think i was putting extra weight on his back
