For those who have chain link and want to discourage digging, or have a particular spot that your pupper seems to like, try the aluminum tent pegs they sell at Wal-Mart or K-Mart.  They are about 10 inches long and you can pound them into the soil and hook them to the bottom "V" of the chain link.

I put about eight into the fence where Guinness had found just enough clearance for his skinny body (no dirtying toes for His Majesty - PLEASE!!).  It did the trick.  The fence was easily secured and the pupper escape route was shut down!
