If you could spare some rays for Ruckus that would be great! He is having back pain and is currently being crated and on prednisone and awaiting a appt with the neurologist on Wednesday. He is about the same age as Penny and is in great shape so this is really hard on Lee Anne and her family. We met them a couple of years ago at one of the dachshund meet-ups in San Diego...she has a great pack of doxies. She is also one of the founders of 2nd Chance Dachshund Rescue http://www.2ndchancedoxie.com/index.html. So any rays would be greatly appreciated!!! I'll keep you updated! Here is a picture of Ruckus at the Wiener Wonderland this past December.

Many healing rays and prayers are on their way to your friend and Ruckus.  I remember seeing this picture when you originally posted your Wiener Wonderland pictures and I remember thinking how cute he was.

I got this email from Ruckus' Mom yesterday:

Great visit with the neurologist yesterday. Because he was on his 2nd full day of prednisone, he was feeling pretty good and the neurologist said she wants 3 to 4 weeks  of pred and tramadol for the next 5 days along with that. As long as he keeps responding to this therapy, he's good to go and we won't have to do a ct scan. Of course, I couldn't be more delighted!! The only real restrictions she put on him was no running, jumping, or horse play. A normal owner would take that as no crate rest - not this owner. He'll be in the crate unless he's out going potty, or firmly wedged safely between Tony and I. :-)

What does this mean for his future? I don't know... even more diligence on my part I suppose. I know I learned things from this experience - which is good. For example, you can't give them pred and baby  aspirin at the same time. It will give them a stomach ulcer. I'm glad we found that out sooner, rather than later. Also, an electric blanket is a smooth doxie's best friend. They all want to pile in the crate with him! It also encourages him to want to be in there because his goal in life is to be toasty warm at all times.

Thanks for the update, Kari. It sounds like Ruckus has very good parents. He didn't get to the point of needing the surgery - YAY!!!!!

That's wonderful news about Ruckus!  We had a similar situation with Chilie about 5 years ago.  She responded well to prednisone and a muscle relaxer (I can't remember the name of it!) along with rules of no jumping off the couch, no climbing stairs, lots of rest and a good diet.  Since then, :xfinger: she has been doing just fine.
