My cousins couldn't get in to fix this for me this morning because of all the flooding, the roads are under water all over the place. I live a few blocks from down town and they have it barricaded off since it's all under water too. Luckily even in the worst floods we've had I stay dry, although sometimes I end up being on a little island. It's still pouring. Our only casualty here so far is Hallie's fence. There was some unfamiliar poop in our back yard today luckily I have a gate I can shut so Hallie can only go onto the cement part and not into the yard. Still I don't like having my yard open like this!

About an hour ago though she finally did go POO in her potty house out there!! We did a big happy dance! She waited a day and a half I hope she will now see it's OK to poop in there. Makes me feel good to know she's dry while she's doing her business.

Well Dee Dee, It pears to me, you may have moved to Nebraska.  Wez got da bad wind today too.  Not quite as bad as your wind though.  Also, we don't hab da flood cause we neber get any rain or snow anymore.   :dontknow:  I'm glad you had Hallie inside during dis nightmare storm.   :apls:  I hope her fence gets fixed real soon.  And, yes, I agree...Pwincesses wike her need to be dry.

Awww, that stinks.  Hopefully it will get fixed soon.  Glad to hear that you guys are ok.  I was thinking of you this morning when I saw the flooding on the news.

I'm trying to convince DH to put a fence up around our yard.  He argues that it will make things look more confined.  I argue that it will give a nice, safe place for Chilie and Lara to play without having to worry about "outsiders" coming in.

Tell DH that the whole point is to make CHILIE and LARA look more confined!!  LOL

Was wondering how you guys were doing, I heard Centralia mentioned on the national news this morning.  I guess we are getting some of that storm, we have had horrendous winds.  My sister-in-law in Seattle said things were pretty wet up that way, too.  Your poor fence!!!  I'm glad Hallie is doing her business okay outside.  Those doxies don't like the change in routine, I guess.

Gail

Hallie you should be reeeeeeeeeeeeally careful because if it was a big bad woof that huffed and puffed and blowed down your fence he might try the same with your poo shelter.  We are going to try to 'scape while mum is out and pop over to protect you but we have to wait to get onto the puter to check the maps and see which way to scamper.  Holly is working on looking adorable to see if we can hitch a lift all the way there.  Never fear the Scotdox will make sure no big bad woof gets you or your mummy

I guess I won't worry about the fence, our county is devastated, the freeway is under 10 feet of water and closed for 20 miles both north and south of me. They have a detour route through Yakima which will take seven hours!! Businesses are all closed, schools, etc. No one can get anywhere, the roads are flooded and there have been helicopters going overhead here for 2 days now rescueing people. I don't even want to think about the animals out there. We had over 100 mph winds in places but the wind is gone now and it's not raining at the moment but the rivers haven't crested yet so it's supposed to get worse before it gets better. Sounds like my county here got the worst of it. It will be at least a couple of days before any roads can be opened and repaired if needed. I'm really lucky to be surrounded by water but my place is OK for now and we have power...a lot of people don't. They have been evacuating part of the town.

D'UH.  Boyz.  Hire someone and get it in while he's a twork  (ooops  ha ha "at work")  Tell him a huge German Shephard corralled ya into the house and barked at ya for an hour.

Actually, and I know this from a former Parole Office--houses with fences spell D-O-G and whether the dawg is 10 lbs or 100, they still bark and alert people and generally thieves will avoid those houses unless they no for sure there is no canine alert system.

Yeah pick up Hallie and run like H***

The news just said the hospital is on an island, surrounded by flood water a half mile in each direction and I am just over a half mile from the hospital so I must be on the edge of it. Hallie and I will venture out in a bit just to see how close we are. At least I could drive toward the hospital if they are a bit higher than me. But I think we'll be OK it's not raining and now they say the river has crested here anyway, other counties haven't yet. I am so grateful to have power and not be under water. Patty you remember Safeway, I can't even get that far. I am most worried about the animals out there, especially horses and livestock that people can't throw into their car or take upstairs with them like they can pets. But there are also stupid people who leave their dogs chained up then the flood waters come...I better stop thinking about that ack.

Willy's bark is very loud and annoying, he sounds like a big dog.  And when a stranger comes over, Willy and Alex make this sound like someone is being murdered with a chainsaw.  Its very different than when a friend stops by and they are just saying hi.

The flood water has receded a little...but Hallie isn't going to be able to get to the vet for her allergy shot tomorrow. I know she'll be so disappointed!  Still a huge mess here, everything under water and a lot of people at temporary shelters. I am so grateful my place was OK in all this. They hope to open the freeway by Thursday but said they aren't making any promises...

Was watching the news last night and it showed a lot of pictures of Centralia.  I tried to call you, DD, but the phone just kept ringing.  Please check in and let us know how you and Hallie are today.  Are you still an "island?"  As I understand it, no man is an island.......

I guess it's receding a little now, although I still can hear the helicopters out there flying back and forth. I keep hearing sirens out there too, they are going right now I'm not sure what that means! (hopefully not a tusnami alert. Heh. just kidding we're nowhere near the ocean) My vet just called about Hallie's appointment today for her allergy shot and said she thought I could get there by a back route. I will be surprised if I can circumvent downtown to get to the back route but we'll give it a try. She moved her time up to 12:30. Poor Hallie! She thought she was getting a wet type of "snow day" from her shot.

I can't believe how fortunate we are to have had such little trouble here. I am doing a lot of thank you prayers! Didn't even lose power here! Just a few blocks or less, all around me was underwater. I haven't been out this morning to look so not sure how it is now. But I hope down a little. Last night we could get to the park and can see big logs they used for parking guides, laying way out in the football fields so the water had already gone down some. Hallie's fence was the only thing at all and that is nothing in comparison. Many people I know had to evacuate, one friend from the dog center where we train, has all her dogs in an upstairs bedroom her whole yard and basement are flooded. People not only have to replace things but also bleach everything because flood waters are really polluted and toxic. I saw one idiot at the park yesterday throwing a stick for his dog to retrieve in the flood waters. Ack!

Just heard on the radio that the evacuations from the flood are the largest since Hurricane Katrina. The mailman is here right now though so apparently the mail can get through again! I think things are getting better out there.

Water damage has got to be the worse thing......I am so glad we are on a hill, we have a 1% chance that we would ever be flooded.
DD, I would say it was around 6:30 your time that I tried to call.  Just wanted to see if you were OK.  I was so worried your cute little house and yard would be flooded.

Dee Dee and Hallie

Thanks Patty, that was really nice of you. I have been surprised at some of the people who have called to make sure all was OK that I wouldn't have thought would, and how many of those I thought would be concerned and call, have hardly said anything or checked in. Guess it shows who your true friends/family are!  :thumb:

I am glad you are on a hill too. If YOU ever flood...you know everyone's in trouble! I keep seeing people walking their dogs around and in the flood water! They are crazy. I was talking to my vet about it today she couldn't believe people don't know better, she said they even are concerned about dogs walking on ground where the flood water was, it's so toxic. In town the water smells like gasoline, many gas stations, etc have been flooded and that all goes right into the water. Not to mention the sewage, etc.

We did make it to the vet today but it took almost 2 hours to go what usually takes 10 minutes. We did get through though on the back roads.  I noticed the water was higher in some places (the river) and lower in others. They said they are going to breech the levee to relieve the water on the freeway because it has nowhere to go.

What really got me is the vet was saying how many dairies here lost all their herds to drowning...some were out shooting their cows knowing they had no hope. Just makes me cry...there were a lot including some mini horses and donkeys and a bunch of llamas, and I'm sure a lot more we haven't heard about so no doubt horses and things...too sad to contemplate. Dogs and cats too no doubt, etc. Hundreds of animals. I've never been through something as bad as this. I still feel very lucky.

That would have been exactly the time we were on our computer set up last night, between 6 pm and 9 pm my time it was. I am really sorry I missed your call! Thanks for caring.

You definitely find out who your friends are when hard times hit.  I, too, have been amazed.  I am referring to the loss of Domingo.  I was working for the Carriage Company at the time, and just a few months earlier had brought the ELLE magazine that featured Domingo and showed it to Jon, the owner, and some of the other drivers.  Jon knew how much I loved my boy, yet when Domingo died, I got nothing from him, not a phone call or anything.  I really thought he would be one of the people who would have cared.  I mean, this is a guy who sent flowers to one of the drivers because they had a petty argument.  I didn't want flowers, I needed a friend.  I know Jon anguised over what I went through when Domingo died, I heard a lot about his concern from a fellow driver, but it would have been nice to hear it from him.  People just don't understand that a simple phone call, or note or card, can make a lot of difference.

Dee Dee and Hallie

Exactly Patty. I remember that with Domingo. I don't get it. When I lose someone I've learned which people to avoid at all costs.

I have had so many people checking in every day that I never would have thought would. The ones I thought would haven't checked in or said a thing. That is why I live with a dog LOL they ALWAYS care.  :angel4:  Still a lot of people here in trouble, now they say maybe the weekend before the freeway is open.

Good to not check the link Porky's Mom, it is a hard watch. I just can't fathom what all those animals went through.

I don't bother telling people at work when something bad happens to me.  I tell my boss, cause he cares, and he will tell certain people to just leave me alone.  There's even some family members I won't tell, otherwise I get the "well, everything dies, we're all going to die, etc., etc., etc........." speech.  I wonder if she'd have that attitude if it was one of her kids.........................I don't tell this person about good stuff either.

Roberta

Glad to hear your high and dry. The animals I try not to watch as it upsets me. But we have the opposite, its very hot for this time of year (Nick says "we've stuffed the planet") and you see people walking dogs on the pavement at t emp in the high 20C or in the 30's. I often say they should put them in  a fur coat ( fake fur of course) and take them for a jog.
On people who you think care, it realy opens your eyes, when we lost INgrid, my girlfriend who has a beloved Lab did not say a thing or a kid word, and in August when Amy had her op, my boss non dog person, just said take the time you need, I had been waitng of the "its  just a dog tag" .
When something like floods or fires happens it makes you put your own life in prospection.

Looks as if it snowed to boot to. What a waste of water when we could do with it here.
