Marcia from MI

Eddie here,

Today I went for a walk all by myself, but when momma yelled food I came home.

Marcia here:

I let Eddie out this morning and when I went to let him in he was gone and the gate open.  So I ran to the front yard and found him two doors down sitting on the neighbors lawn watching the leaves fly away.  When he saw me Eddie took off in the opposite direction and stopped by the neighbors house.  Well I yelled FOOD and he turned around and headed home.  Unfortunately the wind had partially closed the gate and he refused to go through the small opening.  After about five minutes I yelled food again and the dear boy ran right into the yard and went squirrel hunting.  He's sleeping now.

This is the first time in about 2 years that he has run away.  Usually it takes me an hour or so to get him home, but guess he's worried about mom since his Sammie went to the bridge..  Anyway we are safe at home now. Amen.

Eddie, that was good of you to come home when your mama called.  But, next time, you shouldn't just leave like that!  It scares your mama.   Be good and stay home!

What a good boy Eddie was to come home to you when you yelled food....usually mine will come running when I yell "treats" when they are in the back yard.  They are such a worry.  I have learned my lesson here because Zoe will take off at second's notice if our gate is open (the neighbor boy has left it open on two occasions) and Zoe will run down the street 3 or 4 houses before I can catch her.  The word "Treats" has no effect if she is "free".  Now, I always check the gate before I let them out to pee.  I am so glad you are all safe and sound.

Marcia when you see him have you thought of just sitting down and calling him. Oliver has only once slipped his collar afer a dog jumped up at a gate next to the pavement and started to bolt. Some one had once told me not to chase as its a game  then the other is to walk in the other direction when they see you. I just sat down on the edge of the pavement and yelled and he came back.
But he was avery good boy for coming back, our worst disappearances have had them shut in wardrobes or cupboards and they just sit waiting to get let out, no bark or anything.

Our worst disapperance came when Clifford was about 2 years old.  I came home from work and he didn't meet me at the door.  I checked all the usual places and no Clifford.  I called my parents to see if one of them came and "borrowed" him for a while.  Nope.  Finally I went to move a fleece pullover that was lying on the sofa and it was quite heavy.  He had wedged himself down one of the arms and couldn't get back out.  That pullover is still one of his favorites to lay on.  Guess he got really acquainted with it...

Good boy Eddie.  I'm sure your mom was really happy you came back.
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

This sounds a lot like a "Merlin the Magician and Dr. Beau Leaky" production!!

Just reading it makes me shudder!  We all remember the day and a half that the boys went missing.  You did everything right!

My Cooper-Angel :angel4: always came back when we finally figured out the he would chase US if we didn't chase HIM!  So we would get his attention, crouch down in a fake move to get him interested, then run away.  If I was in the car, I'd open the door, call him, then start to drive away.  He'd bolt to us, The door would slam and he was a happy pupper to have "captured" us!

It's a good thing he's at the bridge waiting for me, 'cause I'd hate to have to chase him all over heaven!!
