Longfellow has been going to obedience classes the past three weeks.  He is doing great with most things, not so hot in a few areas, but over all I am so pleased with his progress!

One of the week two lessons is walking on a leash.  He does great in class, but at home he pulls for the first block or so, but he is getting better each time.  Fella is not used to long walks!  He is dragging after four or five blocks!  All the same, I have been taking him out for walkies.  The first week was for 10-15 minutes each night, and now we are up to 30-40 minutes.  We just keep going up and down our street until he gets tired, and then I bring him in.

I really enjoy our after dinner walks, and had hoped that weight loss would be a side benefit.  Okay, the weight loss happened, but not for me so far.  A few days ago Kevin and I noticed Fella was starting to look a bit bony, so we increased his food a bit to compensate for the extra calories he has burned.  Wish it had the same effect on me!  The scale hasn't budged so far.

Hey that's great that you guys are walking to get healthier.  I am a fitness trainer and believe me it is important for you to keep moving if you want to lose weight.  As well as eating right, not a diet, just proper nutrition.  Maybe try to increase your walking to an hour a day.  Then try taking two walks a day like Porky and I do.   If you eat right as well as increase your walking, you should see weight loss in yourself as well as fella!   I'm so glad he is doing well in his obedience classes!   By the way...if you want more tips, just send me a message through here and I'll try and help ya out.   :thumb:

I've got a great work commute.  1/2 mi (we checked) from home.  I usually get dropped off in the morning but walk home for lunch, do a few Madderoo hefts, walk back to work and home again after work.  1.5 miles a day.  Now I went to the doctor for my back, which is doing its seasonal seize up thing and he proceeded to put down my walking.  "It does nothing for the back."  Hrrrrumph!  I say it's better than a kick in the pants, by gar.  If I didn't do the walking, I'd probably be wider than I am now, so there!

BTW, I'm done with medical docs for this back thing.  I've had it.  All they can tell me is, it's in my head.  Sheesh, when I feel like the Coyote after having an anvil fall on him, it is NOT in my head.

Congrats Fella!  And you too, Jeri!  Very good work.

Hi fella just tell your mum to run so she can keep up with you.
OLiver

I use the zipper leashes and I find Oliver is better on them.  I ususally run him alone for a block or to knock a bit of energy out of him.

I have the ones that are tape and they are easier to use, it gives them about 10-15 ft and some places to move without tripping you up. Not advisable to try more than two at  a time, from experience three is spagetti.

Even if you're not seeing it on the scale, exercise is definitely helpful for your heart and lungs.

I used to do something called the "hill climb challenge" with Rudy & Max.   I would find a short and steep hill charge them up and down the hill.   It helped develop their muscles, and mine, too.
