I went to the vet this morning to pick up Sam's ashes and was very surprised and happy that they delivered them to me in a red velvet bag that was inscribed:

"Until we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge."

I was going to bury the ashes next to Gizmo's but since the bag is so pretty and the message heartfelt I am going to keep it on my dresser next to Sam's picture.

That is such a hard task, I hate to think of you doing all this alone. How nice they put out an extra effort and do something special to help ease the pain a little. I think it's a great idea to keep them by his photo. Sam would like that. How is Eddie doing?

Eddie's doing fine. Last night I had pizza for dinner and Mr Eddie stole a piece right off my plate. So he must be doing better.

I think thats a great idea, to keep Sam's ashes on your dresser. Misty's ashes came home in the tiniest flowered tin. They sit on the windowsill near the woodstove, along with her picture, her candle and her International Star Registry certificate. She's always with us.
I'm glad to hear that Eddie is eating and feeling better. I hope you're feeling better also. Sam's passing brought back the pain of losing Misty. The "missing" of them runs so deep, doesn't it?

I bet this opened a sore wound for you. That sounds like a perfect place for Sam. You'll be able to see his picture and imagine him running pain-free at Rainbow Bridge, while he waits for the rest of us. I still have Heidi and Nugget's ashes. I just can't bring myself to part with them.

It was my worst moment when I picked up Angus. But we have him and the others in the study where they liked to be in beautiful teak boxes. We had always planned to put them on the block somewhere they all loved to run.
Marcia it sounds as they did him proud, but after all he deserved it.

Awww, that sounds like a good idea, in a velvet bag. I have Heidi's and Siglen's ashes in little wooden boxes, and Gretl's are in a tin, next to their photos. I love the Rainbow Bridge quote, especially.

We have a very good friend who owns a pet crematory here in Greenville. Randy actually use to work with him when he needed help, and I have even done a little, but only the paperwork. He bought the business from an elderly man who just didn't realize the value of this service, and has since more than tripled the business. I love the way he really is careful about the way things are done.
They have a small, generic wooden box they use for the ashes, but offer many other kinds of boxes and urns for purchase. I'm going to have to mention the red velvet bag to him. I really love that idea. I would love to know if the vet's office moved the ashes to the bag or if the crematorium did. I also like the small flowered tin. Will definitely be talking to him soon.

I love the inscripted message about the "Rainbow Bridge"!!! I bet the bag is just beautiful... Nothing but the best for our little ones... I wish we had something like that around here... This brought tears to my eyes... It is very hard, but yet we know they are well and young again... And, little Sam is right where he should be, next to his pictures with his momma and brother... Teresa the bag came from the Pet Cemetery, which is called Garden of our Little Friends. Inside was a card with all the information regarding Sam and my name and there is a tag on the out side with my name. It is really quite fantastic. A friend of mine had her cat cremated and the place she took the cat sent her the ashes in a paper bag, then tried to sell her an urn.

I was looking on the Internet and found a couple places that sell biodegradable urns which decompose over time, but are no good here because we have too mich clay in the soil. So that is why I love this bag.

Leopold and Archie are in a couple of bags like that. I can't bury them either. Perhaps one day you and I will be able to let them go, but right now we still need to hold them.

Marcia, Thanks for the info. I will definitely pass it along. They always include the pets name, cremation date, number and the Crematory name on a really nice looking card. It also has a notarized seal. Some people chose to not have the ashes returned to them. In these cases, they still got a card with the pets name and the date of cremation. I can't believe one would use a paper bag. That is really sad.
I love your idea of putting Sam's bag near his picture on your dresser. What a great place.
Had to laugh at Eddie stealing Pizza. Schatzi has done that before. It's amazing just how quick she can be.

That is very nice to have Sam close to you very sad when they leave us but we know they are pain free and in a better place. When Jake my Bouvier passed I had him cremated he came home is a royal blue bag velvet in Gold embroidery it said till we meet again at Rainbow Bridge.When Gizmo passed I asked about getting her also cremated it would have cost almost what it cost to have Jake done? I thought it was odd Jake was a 28" & 3/4" 110# Bouvier Des Flanders dog little Gizmo weighed 7# a little Papillon thought it would not cost that much brought Gizmo home buried her with Jakes ashes so she would not be alone Jake protected her when she was alive so figured he could be with her in death she was so tiny.

Funny how we are all so different, I could not bear to have my babies ashes, I have them all buried in my own plot where I know they are safe and sound. I have several friends who have to have the ashes though, we all deal with these awful times differently. I also have to throw away EVERYTHING, hurts too much to see it. I always do though keep a lock of hair...

Give Eddie a hug, and a slice of pizza for us!

Oh Marcia, I'm sure this must have been so bittersweet for you. How wonderful that they do that. Funny how the little acts of kindness mean the most at times like this.

Isen't that great. Zelda was our third baby to be cremated, we have always gotten them back in lovely wooden boxes and Zel's was in a hunter green velvet bag. It just lets you know they are taking great care with our loved ones remains. I keep all mine in the china closet and my family thinks I am all nuts! But it is a comfort to me. Feel at peace and know we will all be with Zillions of weenies in the afterlife!
