I'll fly down to Seattle, then you, Hallie and me will take the train to go see David and the Chincoteague horses!

Assateague / Chincoteague is about a 3  - 3 1/2 hour ride from where we live.   It would definitely make for quite the adventure with a whole slew of dacshunds in tow!

We aren't so far away!  You can all come out yonder to Manassas , pick up our troop then it's out to the battlefield for the charge of the dachs brigade up Henry Hill. (Dachshunds to the right of them, dachshunds to the left of them, dachshunds in front of them, yapping and barking... )

I told my husband Dan about my plan to fly down to Seattle and take the train with DD and Hallie to Chincoteague, and guess what???  He wants to go too!  He thinks a train trip across the USA would be a blast, and so do I.  All the things we would see, it would be great!!!  Going to look into this.  It may have to wait three years until Dan retires, but its do-able.

Dan is so cool, he's game for just about anything!

I have a friend who takes the train from here to the east coast every year, he says it's so relaxing, no phones and he can work on his laptop leisurely. Only problem for me is no dogs on the train,  :doah: (I looked into it to see if that was an option to go to Texas to visit Ron and Delia and the grrrls.)

I will just have to win the lotto and buy my own train!  :thumb:

Thats a BUMMER about no dogs on trains, I would have thought they'd be more tolerant.  I did a quick Amtrak search, just to get an idea on price.  It would cost two people with a "roomette" about $1,400 one way.  I figured if we made the trip, we'd want to fly home.

Dee Dee and Hallie

Wholly....$1400??? I had no idea it would be that expensive.
Always something to spoil good plans!

If I remember right it took my friend 5 days to get to the east coast (or was it 7) so that would make for a long vacation although if you are retired, no problem!  :thumb:

Yeah, a bit steep price-wise, and it would take 4-5 days to get there.  BUT, if part of the vacation was seeing the USA cross-country, it wouldn't be a waste.  And it would definitely have to be done when we are retired and have all the time in the world, but then again, who wants to leave their pets behind at home that long.
