Longfellow is only two years old, and between his size (30 lbs) and his puppy energy, he can be a lot to handle at times!

There are bats in our neighborhood, so most evenings around dusk, Kevin and I take the dogs outside for exercise while we watch the bats.  I keep a tennis ball out there to throw for Fella, who likes to run and play, and I like to try to work off some of his energy.  The night before last we were out there, and I threw the ball for him.  He ran to retrieve it, then dropped it and began running in circles, somewhat like he was chasing his tail, except he wasn't after his tail at all.  After a couple of minutes of this, he looked at me and ran toward me at full speed.  I was expecting that he would want a hug or something, but as he neared me he didn't stop or even slow down at all.  Instead, he ran full speed into my leg.  He stood looking dazed for a moment, then fell over on his side.  He sort of reminded me of Arte Johnson on his tricycle on Laugh In.

He rang his bell pretty good, but after 20-30 seconds was up and about.  Very soon after that he was acting like his silly old self.  I kept checking his pupils for signs of a concussion throughout the evening, but he was his normal goofy self.  I have a bruise on my shin from the experience.

Then last night I was sitting on the sofa when he trotted over and lept into my lap.  He was like a wild man with his hugging and kissing, and swung his head hard into my lip.  I now have a split lip to go with my bruised shin.

In each case, Fella hasn't suffered any lasting effects.  Fortunately for him, he used the hardest part of his anatomy, his head, each time.  This has resulted in very little injury--for him!

Jeri, he sounds like he is having a puppyhood he may not have had before.  When I found Sully Angel he was basically the same as fella and wanted to be with me constantly - he was hopelessly devoted to me.  He probably can't believe he landed into such a great lap.  I know about the bruises Sully gave me quite a few before he realized I was in for the long loving haul.

Be happy that Fella is not Buddy's size 30" shoulders & 91 # and he is a puppy 15mos old Doberman he really give Patches & I a time of it. They say the brain fairy will arrive when he is 2 years old or 3 years old maybe even 4 years old just be happy that Fella is a happy boy.

Poor old you............ you have been in the wars. I think he realises what life is all about now. He sounds like the same energy levela s Oliver but thank goodness Ollies a bit smaller. I often say he has ADD as he is always bouncing off walls. I sometimes think its the shear joy of running that gets into them.
hugs to you both

Sounds like a visit from Zeke may be the Rx for Fella.   Then the two of them could smack into each other at full speed.  Zeke has done some beating on me, too, most notably the corrective nose job (although it was temporary, the cartilage eventually slid back into place, or out-of-place as the case may be).
