Hi all, my daughter is doing a report for Science, and she chose to do it about Doxies....     :headbang:    We have a couple of pics of my Boo and some of Emmy, but would like to show the different hairstyles      and colors that Doxies can have...  So, if you don't mind us printing them for the poster board, could you please send to my email (preferrably my Yahoo)....  We can't wait to show people how beautiful these dogs are, no matter what color or hairstyle      Thanks to you all...  Who knows, maybe we will have a town of Doxies soon...      Hope to hear from you all soon....  We just don't want to use any without permission....    I will definately be using a pic of my Boo so she can try to somewhat explain the problems they have with IVDD, and the complications that "may" come with it....  Some having had surgery would be great too, as she can explain that some do come through without any complications....    Thanks to you all...

                                                                                     Dauchsund's

Dauchsund's also known as Weiner Dogs, Hot Dogs and Doxies, are a type of Hound that are small in stature, but big in heart and devotion.  In Germany (their home country) this breed is called a Deckel.  Any Dauchsund owner will agree, there is no other dog worth owning.  Doxies are irresistible, charming, impish and headstrong.  Once bred for badger hunting, Doxies now occupy thousands of homes and hearts.  Anyones first question would probably be about their short legs and long bodies, yet this is what makes them truly unique.  Dauchsund's can be really hard to train and are needy for attetion, which throws them into a vicious cycle of rescue and very few are lucky enough to survivie out of tens of thousands.  Originally, all Doxies were short-haired and smooth- coated.  Wire and long- haired hairstyles were developed through selective breeding, along with many different colors.  In the USA there are two recognized sizes, standard- over 16 pounds and mini- 11 pounds or less.  But, in Germany there are 3 sizes, standard, mini(otherwise known as dwarf) and rabbit.  Doxies have some bad and some good qualities.  On the bad side they are stubborn, clever, courageous to a fault and obsessive compulsive.  They are known to have serious spinal problems, Intravertable Disc Disease or IVDD for short.  This is easily remedied if caught in time, but some complications can arise.  On the good side they are comical, sociable, a good watch dog and a great family pet.  Doxies typically live a long time, some known to 18 years, which can be a comfort, yet they will totally break your heart when they are gone because they along with their love, personallities, and complete dedication to our happiness have become a big part of our lives, and they are not easily forgotten.
