We had quite a scare this morning.  I was awakened at 4:30 by our doorbell.  As i was getting out of bed it rang again.  It didn't take me long to reach to door, but by the time I got there and looked outside, there was no one there.  I moved to another window, and there was a car in the driveway just sitting there.  By this time Kevin arrived.  Apparently he doesn't wake as quickly as me--heck of a time to learn this fact!  After a couple minutes, the car backed into the street.  It was sort of in front of my neighbor's house for maybe 30 seconds and honked its horn, then pulled in front of our driveway, blocking it.  I kept calling to Kev to call 911, but he wouldn't do it.

And then THE PHONE RANG!  kev answered, and a man said "I have the wrong number" and hung up.  The car stayed another minute or so, and finally SLOWLY drove down the street.

I couldn't make out the tag from inside the house, but the caller's name and phone number is on our caller ID.  It's hard to believe they aren't related, because we never have visitors or call at that hour.  My coworker thinks I should file a police report anyway.  What do you think?

To keep this dachsie related, our normally very vocal Skeeter didn't utter one peep, not ONE!  It was as if she was saying, "it's too early for me.  You two handle this!"

I would definately report it.  It appears to me they were scoping out your house - checking to see if anyone was home.

Scary - be careful !

Oh goodness - how scary!  I always think I hear things outside - good thing I've got my very protective dachsies by my side at all times!  I to would report - better safe than sorry!  Maybe they'll patrol your area more.

I would call the local police, tell them the story, give them the caller ID info. Even if you didn't see the tag number, if you have an idea of what the car looked like, they can cross reference the name with the DMV and see if it is the same person. If so, they can at least contact him and ask a few questions. That way you aren't really filing a report, since there isn't a crime involved, but giving them information to follow up on. I would definitely ask to speak to someone on patrol, though and not just the desk clerk. Otherwise, it may get lost in the shuffle. That is just too coincidental for me.

too weird not to report.  Put yer eye in for that car or anyhting else weird in the neighborhood.

My friends always had folks using their driveway for a turn around.  And then they got robbed!!!!!!!!!!!!!  A fake survellance camera at the end of the drive and no more turn arounds.

I did call when I got home, and an officeer came out and took a suspicious incident report.  As I suspected there was not much he could do, but they could have taken action if we had CALLED WHEN IT HAPPENED.  Kevin will be hearing about this!  All we can do is be alert.  The officer agreed that if it happens again, we must call right away, and that I was right not to open the door.

That scared the hell out of me just reading your post, Jeri!  I'm glad that you reported it.  Hopefully the police will send out a squad car to patrol your neighborhood tonight.

Someone could come in & carry my husband off he would not know it, next time leave hubby in the bed and call the police on your own.
