I had to tell this funny story. I have been on the phone this evening quite a bit and for some reason got up and went into the living room. I saw Willie strutt his stuff in from the doggie door and then lay down with a rat in his mouth. I had to do a double take and yes it was a rat and i mean the ones the size of his head with out the tail. I only wish i could have gotten a picture of him but got the rat up quickly to keep the other dogs from trying to take it from him. I am so proud of my baby boy, that i had to share his rat catching story.  :thumb:

Good job Willie!  Rat catching is not uncommon for weiner dogs.   As a matter of fact, the Hungarian name for a dachshund literally translates to "rat catcher"

Last night when i was getting ready to go to bed, i found Willie looking all around that dog bed for his rat. He was using his nose to push it up. He was so funny. I can only hope if there are more that he catchs them and ONLY kills them.

How about meeting you at the front door with a 'possum in her mouth?

Yep!  That's happened here.  Only.......it was the back door. 2 years ago, it was raining....er.....cats 'n' dawgs and I really didn't think the hooligans would go out in the poison drops.  WRONG!  Maddie zipped out and then I slipped into the bathroom.  When I came back to let her in, there she was and there IT was.  It was a baby possum in her mouth.  EWWWWWW!  She was quite proud of herself.  I 'bout had a heart attack. :doah:   .....And then she wanted to give me a kiss.   :nana:

:eeew: No Way! I would be yelling for Drew to deal with it! I don't do icky creatures.

When we first moved into our place the screen door didn't close all the way and a HUGE lizard got into the house. I spent hours trying to get it back out  :verdict:

Willie brought a DEAD rat in the house. When i was going to bed thereafter, i saw him pushing up the side of the dog bed to see if he could find his rat. But i had put the rat in the trash. Willie seems to know i am very proud of him and has been strutting his stuff all evening.
As to the other critters that dogs and cats can bring in, i deal with stuff like that all day at work. I am the animal control officer for the city of Homewood, Alabama. I am the only one and folks are amazed sometimes that a woman does these things. I get amused at men when they run scared at things such as a raccoon, oppossum, snake or anything.
I do sometimes deal with men and women that wont deal with me as a woman and will call for a police officer to talk to the complainant. The officer then arrives and tells the complainant that i am a professional and that they have to deal with me even tho i am female.
I guess i am telling more than you may have asked for but i am a motormouth sometimes.

Skeeter here: :bravo: to Willie on his victory!  When we lived at our old townhouse (the Ratatorium) I was an ace!  My brudder Archie Angel would flush em' and I'd give em' the coup de' grace. Mom and Dad say they hope you don't have such a target-rich environment (wussies!).  Your rat-attack buddy, Skeeter

I do enjoy my job. It is funny sometimes and agrivating sometimes. What gripes me the most are those that have more money than they have good sense. They dont care about others either. I work for a wealthy city which sometimes makes it hard for me. One lady this past week even left me a message of celebration because she caught one of the cats she is complaining about. I picked up the trap with the cat in it but didnt take the trap back as i was going to be off for the rest of the week. I am sure that upset her since she couldnt get rid of more cats. I hope she has more rats in her yard now and that will bring more snakes to her area. I dont pick up either when i am at work. She will have to deal with that.
I am venting and i hope you dont mind. Thanks for listening.

For anyone that needs to rid your home of rats, DONT use rat poison as your furkids can still be poisoned if they catch and eat on a poisoned rat. What i have done is put out some traps that the dogs nor the cats can get to. I use peanut butter to bait it with and it works quite well too.
Someone took a small terrier type dog to my vet on friday and she had eaten rat poison. They made her throw up and didnt find much stomach content so they put her on vitamin K and probably some other stuff. It is pretty scary to me. I always fear things like this.
I live about 1/4 mile from any other homes so dont have to worry much about rat poisoning. I keep watch on the population quite regular.
Willie is very welcome to catch all the rats he wants to as long as he brings them to me and doesnt eat them. YUCK!!!
