We made it through the weekend

Sleet started falling Friday night.  I went to the grocery store and picked up foods that could be eaten cold (cheeze, crackers, lunch meat, etc).  If we lost power, we would have no water, so I filled the bathtub with water - I guess you can make a commode flush if you pour a bucket of water into the tank.  I did make it to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund walk Saturday morning, but by the time I got back to my car, there was a half-inch of ice all over it.  I drove straight home, and it stormed ice all day.  Trees and shurbs were hanging down and our driveway was a sheet of ice.

It turned into snow around 5:00 pm Saturday and the wind was blowing things everywhere.  I called our church's President and we decided to cancel services Sunday morning.  We have a rather large group of elderly, who would try to come to church if we held services, so we cancelled for their safety.  Sunday was not too bad, in fact the ice melted off the trees and our house.  Ozzy was beside himself because, for once, both of us stayed home all day Saturday and Sunday - we are usually in-and-out on the weekends.  He never had to go into his kennel until this morning.

We never lost power, which is surprising to me because we have lost power for hours on clear, sun-shine filled days.  Many areas in eastern Iowa are without power and will not have power for days.  Hotels are full and shelters are opening up all over.

So while the weather is typical for Iowa in February, the situation is not.  We are expected to get some more snow on Wednesday/Thursday.
