I am so frustrated. I have tried all day to post and couldn't. I even have pictures of my poor Tuttle to post too in hopes of someone being able to identify the crazy bumps he got and what caused him to throw up for a half hour last night. He was his normal self, playing with Mimi and my fience and I. Doing the crazty runs and everything. Then after we all went to bed, Tuttle got up and went into the kitchen. I thought he was getting some water. Next thing I know he made it back into the bedroom on my side of the bed and started throwing up. I got up, and cleaned that up and went into the kitchen and notice two more spots. As I am cleaning those up he got sick again. This went on for another 15 minutes. He had nothing left and was crying. I went to get him some nice fresh cold water and I turned around from the sink to look at him and he was right behind my feet going to the bathroom. He couldn't couldn't help himself. He was crying through that too. At this point I thought he just had an upset stomach and had played too rough like he has before. The vet said with some dogs this is normal. So I sat with him and held him. He moaned and groaned and just looked at me with the look of what is going on Mom? He finally felt better and we went back to bed. About 20 minutes later he started scratching and wouldn't stop. So I picked him up, he groaned, and I took him into the other room with better light to check him out. He had welts all over his head and belly, one on his ear and on the sides of his mouth. I FREAKED. I went tearing back into the bedroom and woke my fience up. He was baffled too. All we could think of was that it was an allergy of some kind. He had the bumbs before but only four very tiny ones on top of his head after we gave him a bath over the summer and the vet said it was from the soap we used. So that made us think it was an allergy. But the throwing up had me confused. Then about 20 more minutes went by and the bumps got bigger. I knew my vet was out of town so I start trying to find a 24 hour emergency vet. I found one and they put me on hold for 25 minutes and finally came back and said it was probably nothing!!!! Really? I said. Nothing. Doesn't look like nothing to me. I was really mad. So we decided to wait it out through the night then call our regular vet's office this morning. They just said to watch him and if the bumbs are still there when I got home to bring him in.  And I couldn't stay home with him today because I had to be at work for an experiment. And then this morning I couldn't post the pictures or anything. I still can't get the pictures off my camera. Any way, I work with a woman that also works at a vet. She told me to give him some Benadryl. That would help with the bumps. And she was going to ask the vet she works with if he had any ideas. I get home after making myself sick all day worrying about him and I go staight to his kennel and opened it up and he came flying out and did the crazy runs all around the house. Went and drank some water before he let me check him out. He has no bumps now!! Like the whole episode never happened!!  So it is really a relief for me that he is ok but I am still paranoid as to what caused it. We searched all over last night inside and out for anything that he may have gotten into and couldn't find a single thing. Has anyone else had something like this happen?

I am sorry for a long post. I am just really FRUSTRATED!!

It's great that he's better, but it's you hate to see him go through this at all.  It does sound like hives, and I think it's a good idea that you took pics.  Show them to the vet the next time you see him.  Boone has had a couple of vomit episodes like that.  So frightening, and then they act as if it never happened.

Yes!! He acts like all is normal and I am still watching his every move and how much he is eating and drinking. Then he gives me this look like "back off crazy woman" LOL

And I am most definately going to show the vet the pics as soon as I can get them off that darn camera.

Thanks.

I was surprised when you said the 24*ER vets said do not worry about it I think I would report them to the VET Medical Board. Not to scare you but Hives can be very dangerous can cause swelling in the throat and block the air way and the dog DIES  from Respiratory Arrest.I would keep Benadryl on hand, ask your vet if you would need anyother medication since he was throwing up sounds like he got bit by something maybe in the yard he had an allergic reaction too???Glad he is doing better but sure would talk to your vet better to be safe than sorry is they way I look at it.

Yes I am going to keep the Benadryl on hand. It turned out that last night my Mimi was sick too. But not as bad. Seems they picked up some kind of flu like virus. My vet thinks it could have been when I took Tuttle in on Saturday to get his nails clipped. She thinks that the bumps on Tuttle was from a fever. Both are doing well now. Just not 100%. So I am keeping them calm and pushing fluids.

Papbouv: When I told my vet about what the 24 hour ER did she reported them!!  It shocked her and then she was really angry. So I think that it will be a very constructive complaint coming from another vet in the area!!

Thanks for your input.

Wow, what a night you had!  I'm glad he's feeling better, but I would be really wanting to find out what the heck happened.  Shame on the 24-hour emergency vet, I would report them!

Barb

Glad he is doing better and I agree with the others - the Emergency vet should be reported.  They are our lifeline during the off hours for our normal vets - and anytime we have to call them it is an emergency and they should have treated it that way - I would be frustrated too !!!
