We just picked Penny up about an hour ago. We spent about 45 minutes with the technician going over instruction and lab results. She is doing well and still has her pain medication patch on until tomorrow. She has pooped twice and is peeing on her own. We will be continuing the Prednisone and the Tramadal. She is extremely wobbly but walking. I am afraid to pick her up...I think I am going to break her. They said that everyone loved her and that she was a favorite. We have a follow-up appointment in two weeks. I will be home with her tomorrow so I will post an update and a picture. Thanks again everyone!

It's always a relief to bring you pupper home after they've been hospitalized.  Sending Penny lots of warm rays from the Zs.

:apls: :thumb: :apls: :thumb: :apls: :thumb:  How wonderful that Penny is home!!!!  My, her incision is rather quite large but I assume that is because they fenestrated other possible problematic discs, correct?  Well I must say she looks GREAT!!!!!!  Now, remember STRICT crate rest....24/7 for the next six weeks except with potty breaks just to pee and poop.  Did they show you how to "towel sling" her little backside when she goes on potty break?  Wow...I can't believe how great she looks for having gone through such an ordeal....now the healing....
please post this wonderful news on dodgerslist if you haven't done so....the people there will give you much much information regarding supplements, exercises, ways to keep her calm and contented in her crate, etc.  Lots of files with lots of information.

Congratulations on getting your  :angel4: back home.  Hugs and Kisses to you all

I'm so glad Penny is home.  Pooping and pee-ing on her own is a great sign.  Now she just has to take it easy so her body can heal.  Thanks for the update and pictures.  Please let us know how she is getting along!

We are happy to hear Penny is home.  Sending HHHHH's & PPPPPP's that she gets better soon.  It has been very busy around here so we are trying to catch up with all that has been going on on the board.

Good Morning Everyone! What a night! Penny did really well...we were up at midnight, 3 and 5:30 for meds and peeing. She is resting in her crate and has been really good about being in there - no complaining. She is only walking with support right now but going to the bathroom good and eating well. At this point it seems like a wait and watch her get better! It is so hard to see her not herself but I know that she will be back to normal soon enough. Her pain patch will come off tonight. She doesn't have any stitches that have to come out which is nice since she was stitched on the inside. That is about it for now! Sorry for so many posts! I don't know what I would have done without everyone on WW. Knowing that you guys were here praying and sending rays has been a great support!

Good Morning Everyone! Just an update on Penny  :thumb:

She did well on her first day home yesterday - mostly just slept and went to the bathroom. We removed her pain medication patch last night so she is now on Prednisone, Tramadal and Pepcid. She seemed a lot more alert last night and was interested in what was going on around her. So I think she is progessing well! :hello2: Drew is home with her today and I just talked to him and he said she is perky and tried to take about 4 steps (while he was supporting her) when she was going to the bathroom. The other good thing is that I'm not afraid that I am going to break her...still extremely careful and gentle but not afraid to pick her up  :headbang: I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thanks for the update.  One word of warning on the prednisone, Penny will probably become a ravenous dachsie while she is on that drug (like dachshunds are anyway!!!).
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

You are correct  They fenestrated other discs in the area so the incision is a bit long. But it looks really good - I get grossed out REALLY easy and I was fine with it.

Good to know -  the doctor did mention monitoring her food closely and to give her a little less than normal since she isn't active. She always thinks she is starving so she is going to be double trouble now
