Hi Everyone! Thanks so much for all your concern and support!

We met with the neurologist this morning and have decided to give the medications some more time to work. Penny has gotten no worse so we are still sticking with the conservative approach. On Monday he wants us to reduce the medications to get a better feel on her condition/pain. From there we will decided if we are going to continue with the CT Scan we have scheduled on Wednesday or continue with crating and medications. He feels that since she is doing well and still walking great and responding to all the neurological tests that we should wait and see. If we decide to go through with the CT Scan he will call us right when it is completed and we will decided whether to do surgery or not. The also have a neurologist on call this weekend in cause she were to take a turn for the worse.

I am so glad that she is still walking and not getting any worse, but on the flip side it is hard to know exactly what to do and what is overboard or not. We just love her so much and want to do what is best for her! I'll keep everyone updated as the weekend progresses.

Thanks so much for the update Kari. Sounds like things are going as well as they can right now! That is good. I'm glad she is doing so well they are going to wait and watch her. Chances are she will do fine on her own and not need surgery, many prayers and rays still coming for you both!

By the way...you ARE doing what's best for her! None of us can see the future and we can only make decisions on what is known to us at the moment and based on the probability of things that might or might not happen...you are doing great.

Just hang in there and keep doing what you are doing - rest, rest, rest !!!!     Sending rays to Penny and praying that the meds do the trick.  It sure sounds like you have a great neurosurgeon to watch over her.  Please keep us updated throughout the week end !!!!

So here is my question... Penny seems to be feeling better today which is great! She is still being crated and on the prednisone and tramadal. We scheduled the CT Scan ahead of time for Wednesday is case it was needed. How do we make the call on whether to do it or not? For those of you that have gone through this I would love your opinion. Is it worth it just to know??

Kari,

Will knowing change the course of your treatment? If you see a blown disk will you still do sugery despite the fact she is improving with the steroids and crate rest? I think I would wait and see how she is on Tues and then make the call if she declines then obviously you have your answer if she continues to improve I would be inclined to wait.  If she has to be sedated I would caution you to hold off if she is improving.

Of course JMHO ;)
