hi everyone.  Poor little Porky has had the sneezes and wheezes this last week, just awful!  Is it possible he is allergic to sugar beet dust?   He didn't seem to have problems this time of year last year, but we have moved.  Where we live they are harvesting sugar beets and lots of our neighbors are burning wood in their fireplaces.   Could it possible one or both of those factors are irritating his nose?   We have also had a lot of wind. He seems to be sleeping just fine and acting normal,  so I haven't wanted to give him the bendryl yet.  However, he has had a rough day of it today.   Any ideas what could be causing all these sneezes?

:xfinger: that tomorrow will be easier for him. I'm giving him some benedryl and putting him to bed after I finish typing this.  If you have any ideas about this, let me know.  I am an allergy sufferer also so I vaccuum two or three times a day, so i don't think its the carpet.  Also, my allergies haven't been bothering me. Maybe its a cold?

It is likely that the increased smoke from the fireplaces is irritating Porky.  I know it really bothers me a great deal.  Fall is a rough time for that!

Ya never know with allergies.  DH suggested we get Loki tested, but if she's allergic to tree pollen, what, I'm gonna get rid of the trees?  All I can do is limit her exposure when she's itchy and we're going to try a new anti-histimine.

I would give Porky a little Benedryl for some relief.  If his nose is itchy he might scrtich it raw like Loki does with her feets.

Personally, I have done better since we moved to newer house, but then dust mites and mold were always my triggers.  A 106 year old house with practically a dirt basement floor was no good for me.  My doctor had suggested putting the books in a closed case, as they are a prime place for dust mites and mold, etc.  I think I do better also because we live on the hill now, too and the wind blows through and cleans everything out.

And one more thing, since Porky is a short hair, I suggest grooming him with the sticky lint roller.  Whatever is falling on him, at least he will be less likely to lick it off.  Takes about four sheets (four cookies) to pull out all the loose hair and dust from Loki.

Good luck.

Those are great suggestions!  Porky has been doing much better now that the darn wind has died down.  We live at a lake and are surrounded by trees, so i'm pretty sure that's what is causing him problems.  I run an air filter in our home which seems to help him and me quite a bit.  I did have to give in and give him some benedryl for three days because his little nose was getting VERY congested.   Thankfully, that seemed to clear it up.  I also give him baths in the allergy shampoo and that helps too.   The lint roller idea is fantastic!!   I'll definately try that one!!

I hope Loki's allergies lessen up a bit soon. I know how miserable they are.

Gizmo had terrible skin problems off & on for about 5 years went to a Dog Dermatologist she said you can also Give Clarion to dogs Gizmo about 8 # at the time so gave a half a pill everyday. Not sure if I spelled it right its the one on TV they advertise for allergies I could not afford the real one so bought the Walgreen's brand it helped allot. Just something else you can try if you do not think  the Benadryle is working.
