Hi all! Well, there has been a lot going on in our family the past couple weeks. You might've read my post of two weeks ago saying that my Mom had to have her 12.5 yr old Aussie Shepherd, Jade put to sleep. I went with her and sat on the floor w/ Jade and petted her while we waited for the sedation to work and then when the shot was given. It had only been just six months since I had done the same for Finn so that was a tough one.
Jessica called me before Jade went to the bridge and asked if I thought Grama Betty would want to have Hemi for her dog. I asked why (knowing the answer full well) and she said that she just can't handle two young dogs, three kids (whom she is home schooling this year) with busy schedules and an invalid husband. She said she thought Hemi would be a lot happier w/ Grama. So, I called my Mom and asked what she thought and she said she would love to have Hemi as her dog. It will be a good thing all the way around. A smaller dog for Mom is good since she is 80. Hemi will be SO loved and cared for and will be much happier. Ever since they got that bulldog Hemi has been #2 and gets the short end of the stick frequently. I have felt bad for him but didn't feel I could take him since I now have my little (ha!) Katie to raise.
So, tomorrow after our Bible study Mom and I will go pick Hemi up and he will go home with her. She is changing his name since she doesn't like Hemi...he will now officially be Finney!!
I'm so happy for both Mom and Hemi/Finney...this will be a good thing!!
Some day I hope to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am!!

Kathy - that is great news !!!!  When I saw your post, I was afraid that your mom had decided not to take him....and am so glad she is !!!!  They will be great for each other and Finney deserves to be spoiled.  Please keep us updated on how it goes !  Look forward to seeing a picture of Finney and his new mom!  Ok.....now does that make him your brother instead of your grandson....LOL !!!!!

LOL Barb!! I guess that would make him my 'brother' instead of my 'grandson'! lol I will get some pictures of Mom and Finney tomorrow.
Today I went to Super WalMart w/ Jessica and Faith to grocery shop. Faith rode in my cart (she just turned 5) and we were visiting as we were going through the store. We were talking about Katie and she was saying how big she is getting...then she said, "Hemi is going to live at Grama Betty's because Jade died." I said that I thought it was so nice of them to give Hemi to Grama Betty b/c now she wasn't sad about Jade. Faith looked at me SO seriously, with these HUGE tears in her eyes and said, "But I am going to miss him." and then she just cried. I felt so sad for her and hugged her. I told her that at least he was going to Grama Betty's b/c then they would be able to see him a lot and he would be happy to see them. "Yes, but I will just miss him. I don't like Gunny...he's too big and he hurts when he bites."
As I think about it all three kids really do seem more attached to Hemi than they are to Gunny. Keith is the one who wanted Gunny and it seems that he and Jessica are the ones who are the most taken w/ him. That is sad...but like I told Faith...at least they will be able to keep seeing him.
Some day I hope to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am!!

Well, the 'transfer' went fairly smoothly today. My middle grandson, Joe (6) was in his room crying and I went in and sat w/ him for a bit. He loves that little doxie and I know he will miss him. I actually think the kids prefer Hemi/Finney over Gunny the Bulldog. I talked to my Mom a little while ago and she said that Finney is adapting nicely to his new surroundings. I'd guess they will have a couple weeks of transition but in the end it will be awesome! Here's a picture I took today. My Mom, Betty, is on the right. My daughter, Jessica is holding Finney.

Gosh Kathy you and your Mom look a lot alike! Sounds like a happy ending for Hemi/Finney, I think he's going to be really good for your Mom to have around.

Yes, a very happy ending for Finney!! I told Mom I was just going to call him Wienie b/c I can't get the name change through my head! Some day maybe! lol
You noticed a family resemblence, eh?? lol Jessica fits in there pretty good too. I have pictures of her that are taken at such an angle you have to look to see if it's her or me when I was her age! Good strong genes, that's for sure!!

I'm so glad the transfer went smoothly. I can understand Faith preferring Finney. I still intimidated by Molly, but she is an adult dog, and we've had her a couple of years. She is sweet, but not the same as a doxie. I'm sure Finney was overwhelmed by Gunney's size and huge personality! Your mom will be able to lavish Finney with tons of love and he will soak up every bit of it. Won't take him long at all to become quite spoiled!!
I understand the family resemblance thing. I've had people come up to me that knew my mom in high school and ask me if I was related to her. Now that I'm older, it's people who she has worked with that will come up to me and ask the question.
I love your new avatar with the picture of you and Katie!!

I stopped by Jessica's today to drop off some things I will be using to teach my grandkids crafts over the coming months (she is homeschooling this year) and even at not quite 4 months Gunny just about knocked me down on the stairs. He's a puppy but b/c of his size he could hurt someone if they don't get him calmed down.
Just talked to Mom a while ago and she said that Finney was asleep in her lap!! lol I don't think it will take long for him to settle in! Once he realizes that Gunny is no place to be found he will relax and enjoy life w/ Grama!

You are right Kathy, Bulldogs make WONDERFUL pets, but they have to learn from the beginning who is boss. We have had rescues both times and have been very lucky that both of them have been well trained. The only problem with Molly now is she is starting to get a little older and can be cranky sometimes. Randy often says she is like most women when they get older
The thing they need to do is get him in a class now and teach him who is boss. Without Hemi/Finney around that should be much easier.
I bet your mom is thoroughly enjoying herself with Finney. She may not get much done, but I think they both deserve a little rest and love right now.
It's great that you will be doing crafts with the grandkids. I recently had lunch with a teacher of mine from dental hygiene school. She has been retired for nine years now and has her granddaughters over every Tuesday to do some type of craft with them. She has taught them to knit, sew, make candles, etc. I think it is great that she is passing these gifts along to them and creating wonderful memories at the same time.

I have mentioned a 'puppy class' to Jessica but that's all I can do! We work here at home w/ Katie daily and she is learning things so well. I'm very pleased.
In talking w/ Steve I have decided that when I go over to be w/ the kids when Keith and Jessica go to Dr appointments and such, I am going to ask them to crate Gunny. He showed me yesterday that he can be pretty unruly and I don't want to have to deal with that. Plus I want to ensure the safety of the little kids.
Crafting w/ the kiddos is fun! Of course, Joe is not real thrilled w/ any of it...he's a funny little guy. (Put him on the soccer field and he's happy!) Ty will go along with me and seems to enjoy it. Faith is not even an issue! She loves to do every single craft I do! As she gets older there are things that I plan to teach her. Such as sewing. Jessica has a basic machine that she never uses and it will be perfect for Faith to start out.

Sounds like a good thing all around.  Finney is ADORABLE with grandma. Sounds like he's adjusted beautifully!
