David C.

Person of the Day

Where do you live:  Damascus, Maryland, 25 miles north of downtown Washington, D.C. and about 30 miles west of Baltimore

Significant other:  My wife Margie, married since July 11, 1998

Children:   Jessica, she will be three on the 22nd of this month

Here is a piccy of all three of us:

What I do for a living:  Music.  During the week, I am the General Manager of Washington Talent, Photo & Video (www.washingtontalent.com) , the agency that books my band.   On the weekends, I play in the band.  Here I am playing the saxophone (not the one that is missing).

Age:  I turn 39 in December.   5'6" tall, around 145 â€" 150 pounds these days.   Brown hair with some grey mixed in.   My hairline hasn't receded, my forehead expanded.

Dream Car:  Dunno, there's a lot of them out there.  I've owned a lot of cars from ex-police cars to an FJ series Toyota LandCruiser.   I'm happy with my '99 4Runner for right now, but I wouldn't mind a 60's era GM convertible.

Hobbies:  Music (well that's kind of my profession…playing keyboards and saxophone) and Mountain Biking.  I own three bikes, all blue, each one of them does something different.  I also do my own bicycle repairs and modifications.  Here is my "flagship" bike, a 2005 Trek Fuel 70 that I upgraded the front fork, wheels and tires.

Travel:  I would like to visit Israel, and I've heard Alaska is nice.   As a mountain biker, Moab, Utah is kind of the Mecca…everyone needs to make a trip there at least once in their life!

Collection:  I did collect vintage saxophones for quite some time, but that became a very expensive hobby.   I currently own 10 saxophones, with 6 of the 10 dating to 1927 or before, and of the remaining four, they are from 1941, 1952, 1974 and 2000.   The picture above is me playing a 1927 Conn Tenor Saxophone.

Food:   Italian.   I'm not a big food fan, but when I'm in the mood to eat, Italian is the way to go.

Favorite Movie:   Again, so many of them.   "In The Heat of the Night" definitely has to be the one that popped into my head first.  Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger were simply awesome in the movie.   "Airplane" is by far my favorite comedy.

Favorite Song:  There are so many great songs out there.   I definitely lean towards 80's material.  Among my favorites:  "Magic Power" by Triumph,  "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey and "I Can't Hold Back" by Survivor.   Survivor is probably my favorite group.

Funny Story:   Probably the funniest was when my band played for Al Gore's 35th High School reunion at the Vice President's residence back in 1995.   When the band was done, I slipped into a pool house to change back into my street clothes so we could pack out.   As I'm standing there half-undressed, in walks none other than Al Gore.   I find myself face to face with the man who was "one heartbeat away from the Presidency", and all I can muster is a drawn out "Hi-i-i-i-i-i".   The Vice President totally ignores me and goes to adjust the stereo, which is also controlled from the pool house.

Exciting Thing:  Become a father….hands down.  I've ridden some amazing trails, rafted down some pretty wild whitewater, played at very exclusive and expensive parties, met more celebrities than I can recall…but none of them can even hold a candle to the moment that I saw my daughter come into this world.   Honestly, what can you compare to this:

Lotto:   Probably wouldn't do much different.   I think I'd stop my day job so I could spend more time with my family, but I'd keep playing on the weekends.  I'd also make sure that the rest of my family was taken care of.   It's kind of a moot point. I very, very, very seldom ever buy a Lotto Ticket.

Tidbits:  The local Park Authority has established a volunteer police officer program.   They were very interested in having mountain bikers join the program as we know a lot of the trails and get to places that the regular uniformed police officers can seldom get to.  I'm right now going through the background checks, etc., but assuming everything goes well, I will be the second mountain biker in this program.

Happy POD to you and Margie!  I am so sorry about your missing saxophone, and I sure hope you get Basie!  I think your cutie patootie gets cuter every time you post a picture - this one of Jessica is simply irresistible!   The family picture is great, too.

I loved your write-up. Working with the Park Authority would be quite interesting and could be pretty rewarding. The pictures are wonderful! I love the look she has in the family picture. It is obvious that she knows she is a very LOVED little girl. When I joined the board she was only 4 months old. Hard to believe she is almost 3. Hope you have a wonderful POD.

Great write up, David.  Somewhere I had the idea you worked for the Government, not a booking agency.  This POD is a great way to learn more about everyone.

I have enjoyed your posts over the years for their insight and humor.  I still think you should write "The Adventures of Rusty, Rudy & Max" so Jessica will know them.

Happy POD Day!

Not a big food fan?!?!  I'm totally head over heels in love with food!   Your funny story is classic!  I'm sure we probably all would've reacted the same way!  And Jessica is absolutely beautiful!  I love her big blue eyes and brunette hair!

Hope you have a super great day!
