For the last two months, about the time we moved here, our neighborhood has had a problem with people not getting their newspapers.  ANd people who aren't subscribers mysteriously getting papers for free.  All of the neighbors got together in a meeting and discussed watching children better to see if that solved the problem.  THey suspected some children were doing it as a joke, or a younger child was having fun carrying them around and dropping them at various houses.

Well...After a few weeks, nothing changed.  The neighbors had another meeting to discuss any other ideas about what was happening with the papers.  (My husband and I had been the recipients of the Free papers.)  No one had any ideas at all.  We decided that we would make a schedule of getting up at 4:30 am and keeping watch outside in our yard to watch for the culprit.  We rotated days.

My turn was yesterday, I was sitting outside reading a book and I heard some jingling and huffing and puffing.  I knew it had to be a dog.   I looked up just in time to see a Chesepeake Retriever run up to my chair.  He dropped a slobbery paper right in my lap.   I watched after the dog left and saw him stop at every house to check for a paper, and then if he saw one he would grab it and take it to the next door neighbor's house.  This dog has manners let me tell ya.  He dropped the paper on every porch!!   :2funny:   When he was finished he ran back to my house and helped himself to a drink from our running hose.

I called our neighbor and told them what had happened and she immediately laughed.  And said it must be another neighbor's dog Chester.  His owners had tried to train him to bring the paper in, in the mornings, but he had never caught on so they gave up.  Guess he learned the trick better than they knew.  :2funny:

LOL!!!  Oh, that is so funny!  How cute of the dog.  He must have been so proud of himself.

What a great story!  And what a sweet boy Chester is.  I'm hoping your neighbors are dog people and can see the humor in this.  So you ddin't notice before that those free papers were a bit on the slobbery side?   :2funny:

Our paper delieverer wraps the newspapers in plastic to keep out moisture.  So..when we found them a little wet, we thought it was the morning dew on the grass. LOL   :2funny:

What a funny story !!!   Maybe the paperboy (or girl !) should hire Chester !!!!
