Scary moment this weekend

We had a family reunion at my uncle's house on Saturday.  It was nice, and their neighbors were nice enough to let all the kids swim in their pool.  The neighbors have an elderly chocolate lab, and he was wandering around in the yard, and the kids would run up and pet him.  He seemend pretty friendly.  Anyway, later in the evening, the lab came over to my uncle's yard because there was bread on the ground that my aunt threw out.  Lara saw the dog and wanted to go over and see him, so DH took her over to see the dog.  He was holding her, and then set her down on the ground.  I was just about to tell DH to not let Lara get too close, when the dog barked and snapped at her right in her face.  DH pulled her away quickly, passed her off to my stepmom and then took the dog by the collar back to the neighbor's house.  Thankfully, Lara was not hurt, just scared.  I was terrified.  I ran over as quickly as I could, but it still felt like I was frozen in the spot I was standing.  DH was beside himself.  I told him that you can't trust any dog you don't know.  Scary moment.
