I was just wondering if its ok to test different foods. I just moved Lilly from baby food to grown up food. I am giving her Beneful and she jsut seems to be having the worse time chewing it. She has been on it for about 3 months now. Can I try something new and if so how often till I find what she likes.  I am also afraid I am giving her too many treats. I give her little beefy jerkys and we seem to be going through them awfully fast! Could I be over treating her? Is there anything else besides store bought treaties she would like I can give her just for being cute? I know, Im a freak !LOL
Thanks!

I give mine Beneful. When I feed them I usually wet it with warm water and let it set a minute for it to soften and then I usually put a little piece of very small cut up meat in it for a treat.

How old is Lilly, and how much are you feeding her?  Brekke is 5, and since I put her on adult food, she gets 1/2 cup of kibble (some people break this up into a morning and evening meal of 1/4 cup each), 1/4 teaspoon of her Sea Meal (vitamins and supplements), and a generous teaspoon of her canned food for dinner.  Breakfast is 2 Vegi-Lite biscuits(I do this because some of my dachsies have had the lovely yellowish bile vomit in the mornings, and their tummies were empty).  She gets one or two treats during the day - like a Cinnabone biscuit, an Old MOther Hubbard biscuit, or a Solid Gold Tiny Tot.  Many dachsies and many dogs, don't handle corn or corn products easily, and that is found in Beneful, so Lilly may be having trouble digesting it.  There are many places on the web where you can check out good quality dog foods, with few or no allergens in their ingredients.  Good luck - and the warm water to soften her kibble is a good idea.  I used to do that - a 1/4 cup of very hot water - and let it sit for about 5 minutes before feeding!

I posted about grading different dog foods under the health thingie. It's been a while, so you might have to scroll down a bit. The title is something like "Grading your dog food." That might give you ideas on what to switch her to. Julia is right, Beneful has a lot of corn in it which is hard for them to digest.

Green beans or baby carrots make good treats.
