My male "Doxie" is 3 years old and has always had a problem with peeing when anyone tries to pet him or when he gets nervous or excited. We have learned to tell all visitors not to pet the dog because he will pee. He has done better with us the family in general because he is used to us, but still has times when he does it right on our lap on the couch!!!! Last night he was up on the bed with his little stuffed squeekee ready to go to bed, and all i did was move the toy and he urinated all over my side of the bed!!! It is really getting frustrating!! He even pees when you get down on his level to out his leash on to go for a walk, so we always have to make sure we are outside when we put it on. Will he ever grow out of that??? And we have considered getting another one at some point, but may reconsider if this breed is known to do this? Any difference with male and female?HELP!!!

The first thing everyone is going to ask is "have you asked your vet about this".  Some dogs of any breed may exhibit submissive urination, but this goes beyond that.  He needs to be evaluated for urinary tract infection, an examined to see if an anatomical problem may be the cause.

My Lucy had a submissive urination problem when we first adopted her.  In fact, the foster mom was skeptical about adopting her out because she didn't think anyone would have the patience and understanding it took to work with Lucy.  I found lots of articles online and just worked with Lucy.  When we first got her, we had her sleep in her denimn panties and just kept lots of Nature's Miracle on hand!  I think they make something like these panties for boys too.

Here she is in her panties

I'm not sure what eventually worked, but she's about 98% better now.  There are still times when she's scared or nervous and she'll hunker down and tinkle a bit.  I agree with Rich about talking him to your vet and also look online.  There are a lot of good pet training sites that offer great advice and information.  Good luck!
