Chilie here:  I get to go spend da weekend wif my Grrrrrranddad!!!  I LOVE my granddad!  He is so much fun and plays wif me and has a big long house dat I can run around in.  And dere is a bonus....my hoobrudder and his family will be there too!  Mom, dad, and Lara are going to Chicago dis weekend, and they can't take me 'cause they're flying.  At first, I was sad, but mom said dat I wouldn't like flying anyway; it would stress me out too much.  So now I'm excited because I get to see my granddad!

Beth here:  My dad loves Chilie.  He's never been known to be a "pet person"....we always had cats growing up.  But Chilie seems to have completely changed him.  Whenever we go to visit, my dad is always the one to take Chilie outside.  The house is a ranch, and it is an open floor plan, so the rooms aren't separated by walls.  My dad will run up and down the length of the house chasing Chilie.  It's so funny, and she just loves it!  Plus, my nieces and nephew will be there, so Chilie's going to be in heaven!

This will be Lara's first airplane ride.  I'm a little nervous about it just because I hope she is ok with the pressurization when we get up real high.  I'm sure she'll be ok, but you know, a first time mommy has to worry!

I am glad to hear everything is great for you and Chilli, lil Chilli Dog will be happy. Have a nice trip

Woo Hoo - Chilie - granddads are just great, aren't they ?!?!?!  Sounds like yours loves you very much and I bet he is so excited you are coming !!!  Thats great that you can stay with him will mom and dad and Lara are out of town.

Beth - if Lara is still drinking a bottle (not sure if she is too old for that !) - have one for her to suck on as you are taking off and landing, or a sippy cup where she has to kinda suck to get the juice out - or a snack to chew......  she will do fine - it will be a big adventure for her !!!

All of you have a great time !

If you tell the flight attendents that it's Lara's first flight they'll help you with her. When my one nephew was 6 weeks old my family and I flew to Las Vegas for my sisters wedding and when we got on the plane we mentioned it was his first plane ride and they gave him a little first time flyer package and if I remember right they took him to have his picture taken with the pilot. They just might do that for Lara.Oh by the way have a good time.

Sounds like Chilie has it made this weekend.  You should too, the weather is supposed to be great here in the Chicago area.
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

A good idea for Lara with the pressurization if she is still on a bottle give it to her durring the time you notice the pressurization to help her pop her ears or a sippie cup if she is off the bottle will help to! Have fun!

Have a great trip!  I bet with all the activity at granddad's house, li'l Chilie will come back home exhausted but really happy.

Beth

I dropped her off at my dad's yesterday, and she's in heaven there!  But I miss her so much.  My brain is still in "doxie mode".  When I got home last night, I kept thinking that I needed to take Chilie out before bed, and then this morning as I was making myself some toast, I was thinking that Chilie would be coming over to my chair begging for some of my food.  Plus, every time I see a dog commercial, I just want to hug and snuggle her.

I know she's having a ball.  My two nieces and nephew are there with my dad and stepmom, so Chilie's getting A LOT of lovin'!  Yesterday while I was there, my nieces were playing in a kiddie pool, and Chilie was jumping and running around chasing my nephew as he dodged bucketfuls of water being thrown at him.  Chilie got caught in the crossfire and got all wet, but she didn't care.  She was running and rolling around in the grass.  Like I said, she's in heaven!  Sandi, you're right; she'll be exhausted come Sunday!

Beth,

how old are the nephews and Nieces? the reason I ask is will they wear Chillie out really fast?  My second question is you said they were in the pool...does Chillie like water? Modem and Molly hate water with a passion, they won't even get in the shower with me.

My nieces are 9 and 11, and my nephew is 6.  I'm not worried about them wearing Chilie out, really.  My dad knows how protective I am of Chilie, and I know he will make sure that Chilie gets her rest.  Plus, Chilie knows when she's had enough, and she goes and sleeps in her Chillydog bed or gets under my dad's couch....one of her favorite spots!  The kids mind pretty well, and if their parents or my parents tell them to leave Chilie alone, they will.

so does Missy Chillie like water? Our two hate water and will not even get in the shower with me, they also hate their baths and it is a struggle to get them to get one.

Chilie tolerates water.  It's not her favorite thing, but she's ok with it.  If she hears the bathtub running, she runs into our bedroom and hides, regardless of who the bath is actually for!  DH used to bring her into the shower with him, and she would just stand there looking so pathetic.

She's coming home today!  My dad is coming up here to drop her off.  I've missed her so much!  I talked to my dad Sunday night after we got back from Chicago and he said she's been enjoying the yard and having fun with the kids.  The kids left my dad's on Saturday, so Chilie had a couple of quiet days.

Chilie here:  I had lots of fun at my Granddad's!  The first couple of days, my hoocousins were there, so I got to play lots with them!  Then they left, and I spent quality time wif Granddad and Gramma.  The weather was really nice, so Granddad sat outside and read his book while I got to run footloose and fancy free in da yard!  I loved it!  But I'm so glad to be home.  My house may not have a back yard, but nobody loves me like my mommy!

Beth here:  I missed Chilie so much.  I picked her up just an hour ago, and she gave me TONS of kisses.  I'm happy to have her home.

Barb, Lara did wonderfully on the plane rides.  She was a bit sqirmy; since we didn't buy a seat for her and she sat on our laps, she just wanted to move, move, move!  I sat next to the window, and she was very interested in the take off...watching everything on the ground get smaller.  After that, all she wanted was to eat goldfish and sit on the floor.  When we landed in Chicago, the woman that shared our row said that Lara was very good.  That was nice to hear.  I was very proud of Lara...she was quite a trooper this weekend!
