New foster Coco

I picked up Coco this past Thursday. He appears to be a red wirehair (pinwire) dachshund like one of the Spanish Teckels who frequents this site.

Coco is about the sweetest foster I've had, but I'm having to have a back problem addressed. He goes for the big snip tomorrow. He came to rescue because his previous owner had to go to a nursing home, and the daughter wanted to have this boy put down.

Coco is still with me. I have taken him to a specialist twice, once for acupuncture and twice for a chiropractict adjustment. The first visit was a surprise because the vet found that Coco had a dislocated hip. He popped it back into place without a whimper from Coco!

But he suspects it had been that way for some time, so Coco had been compensating for the injury by putting most of his weight on his front legs. That probably threw the back out of whack, also. In addition, the X-ray showed a tiny fracture, since healed, in one of the vertebrae. He thinks Coco might have been in a dog fight and hurt himself.

At any rate, he's very hopeful that a few more sessions will help immensely. Already, Coco's back looks more level, not nearly as roached as it was just two weeks ago.

Bless you Mack - poor Coco - having to live with the pain. I know you will get him in fine shape quickly !!!

Actually, there are four other doxies here besides Coco. In addition to my own Ivan, Hannah and Willy, I also have Zeus in foster care. Zeus is a confirmed biter. He is wonderful 99 percent of the time, when he's just around his family and other dogs. But when guests come into the home, he will bite unprovoked. He has had some training, but it is a verrrry slow process. It may take a long time to get out whatever demon is inside his head.

Here is a picture. He has the softest coat on a doxie I've every touched.

My heart warms everytime I think of you and your fosters. I swear, I could never bring a dog into my home and then give them up. You are truly an angel! Please give them all a smootch for me, Coco is so sweet looking, and you can't help but want to run your fingers through Zeus' hair. Kudos to you - thank you for doing what so many of us can't.

P.S. King Sol said to tell Zeus its okay to bite sometimes - even if hoomans get made. Some people deserve it! But, if you do it too much then people just think you are sassy. Then you don't get treats. So please try to only bite when you have to. Oh, and maybe you can come to 'sconsin one day. BAROOOOOOO You iz lucky to have Unka Mack take care of you.
