OK, so maybe that's not such a big deal, but she hadn't pooped since she'd come home on Sunday.  This morning I was taking her temp as per the vet's instructions and she pooped!  I missed getting it on me although the thermometer wasnt' so lucky! lol  Anyway, I turned to wash the thermometer off and she ate it before I could scoop it up.  Silly dachie!  She peed several times last night and is doing much better in my eyes anyway.  She ate her eggies last night and even some of her dogfood by accident since I mixed it with the eggs!
When I got home yesterday she greeted me with a tail wag sitting on her pee pad having just peed so that was good.  I picked her up and loved on her, maybe the potty pad won't be as difficult as I originally thought?  She's much less resistant to the idea now so that's good.  She also hasn't needed any pain meds since Monday evening so I'm glad for that.  Things are looking up!  Thanks again for all the rays and good thoughts!

She goes in on Tuedsday to get her stiches out and to be checked over and I think she'll be a pleasant surprise for Dr. P if she keeps this up.  Her personality is showing itself once again probably due to the pain being less and the swelling around her incision being visibly less.  Way to go Cajsa/bat dog/goat girl!  :goat:

All good signs of recovery! Hooray!   :hello2:

The first thing I thought of when I read she'd eaten her poop was "Well, she's gotten her appetite back. That's good."

April

Yes, her appetite is coming back and she'll be getting "spoiled" a little for the next little bit.  Eggs every night for dinner at least this week.  Dr. P suggested a food high in protein to help the muscles heal better and faster and eggs fit the description and she eats them.  I just use olive oil to scramble them so she gets some good fats for her skin and coat.

good trick with mixing the eggies! it always seems that "real" food dogs prefer over their own. YEA !!!I am very happy for you  I know what you mean about being worried on the whole no poop I was worried when Bish didnt go when he had his lump removed. How exciting for you!!!! :hello2:

Krista

That is great that she is doing so well!

Taking a dog's temp rectally is a great way to stimulate them to poop if they've been keeping it all in, but need to go.

We'll keep sending rays!

I'm so glad that she is doing so much better. Being home makes a difference too. How is Gretchen doing with all this. I'm sure she is wondering about her friend and why she isn't playing. Of course, she is probably enjoying the one-on-one time, too. Now the question is, has Cajsa pooped, and being a member of PEA, gotten rid of the evidence???? Hope she keeps up the quick recovery.

Of course she "eliminated" the evidence (LOL!), before I could pick it up as a matter of fact!  She is trying to recover her Presidency of PEA I think!
Gretchen is having a time of things.  She's getting more time with me and Elf but she's also been "banished" to the kitchen a few times when she normally wouldn't have been.  I'm not sure how much of that is me being somewhat more impatient with her and how much is actually legit.  She has no internal control like Cajsa and doesn't realize that she can't always be in my lap or push Elf or Cajsa out.  She also LOVES to give kisses and will climb over anything/one in her way to give your tonsils a good lick!  She really is a sweet dog, but I just can't let her climb all over the place like that especially when Cajsa is the one in my lap and Elf is trying to squeeze in already!
The good thing is David will be home tomorrow and there will be two laps to choose from so she won't get "banished" for trying to push Elf or Cajsa out of a lap.
Anyone have any ideas for teaching a little better control to a dog?  I'm working on "sit" and stay, but she has to have me put my hand on her very gently or she won't do it.  She is learning though, it's just slow going.  She does get nose to nose with Cajsa and then race around her bed like she's trying to get Cajsa to play and I don't say anything to her unless she starts trying to "nose" Cajsa up and out.  Everyone will eventually make the adjustment I think.  It's just a really rough time right now for me (and as a result everyone else).

Cajsa seems to be progressing very nicely !!!!  I am so glad !  Training Gretchen.....well I am not one to give advice in that area.......my Brandy acts a whole lot like Gretchen does.   It is slow going trying to get her to do things a certain way - and I am not the most adament trainer.  Things will settle down as Cajsa gets better and they can play off some of their energy.  Just keep working with her !!!!

Way to go Cajsa for doing so well....but hey girlfriend...stay away from the poop !!!

April,

I've been keeping up with all the updates on Cajsa, and I am SOOOO glad to hear how well she is doing!  Way to go, Cajsa, you goat girl!  Chilie has fallen off the poop wagon as well, so perhaps the two of you can attend PEA together.  Has the position for VP been filled yet?  Anyway, so happy to hear that Cajsa's recovery has been going so smoothly.

Good for you Cajsa!!!  But NO EATING POOP!!!  You know, since we moved into the new house, Misty doesn't seem to be eating poop anymore.  I think its because they are "going" outside in the morning and after I get home from work, so its not as readily available.  I hope Cajsa continues to improve and get well.

We're still sending rays from Illinois to Cajsa. We are glad to hear she's doing well.
Does she enjoy having Gretchen for company? Blusky&Manny sure enjoy each others company!

April

Cajsa was up several times last night to pee although once I didn't get up fast enough and she peed on her pad in her bed.  She just cried when that happened and I felt awful so I washed her off very gently with a washcloth and had to fix her bed again so it was clean and dry!  I swear she waits unti I get home in the evening to drink anything and then goes potty all night.  I hope she figures out that she can drink while I'm at work...She is doing tons better every day I swear.

Last night while I was helping her stand for a few seconds she tried to move her back leg.  IT didn't really go very far and she only tried it the one time, but it did twitch when I wasn't moving it.  That is great.  She also will walk on her front feet with me holding her back end.  She is a trooper that's for sure!

Well, except for the ciggy, that would be her!  Thanks Ellie!

She heard her papa come home last night and immediately tried to climb over the side of her crate bed to get to him.  I had to go to her and get her first so she wouldn't strain herself!
Poor dear had to pee on her pee pad before momma would let her go to papa!  Even then she still left a trail of pee as she was walked the few feet to her papa.  lol  She was so excited her front two legs were pulling me along holding her back end up!  She was in Heaven last night all snuggled up with both her momma and her papa!  She even got a bone to chew on and growled at Gretchen to protect it!  (Gretchen backed down before we had a chance to step in!)

I'm sure you are more than a little frazzled and exhausted but it really does sound like she's doing GREAT!! I'm so glad. This too shall pass and it will all be behind you soon, life will be back to a dull roar. :) Hang in there, I imagine Gretchen is feeling the stress of the situation and needing extra reassurance.
