Cajsa seems to be doing better one day then not so well the next.  Yesterday she wasn't a happy dachsie at all.  She voluntarily stayed in her crate even when offered my lap and the big bed to sleep in.  That is not like her at all.  Anyway I gave her her pills and eventually got her to come out of her crate to snuggle against me in bed so I could keep a better watch over her.  She just shook and shook for about an hour until her meds kicked in.  I wasn't happy.  She did sleep all night without getting up to pee or poop like she normally does.  (Although she hadn't really eaten anything that evening and I'm not sure how much she is drinking.)
This morning she didn't want to eat anything although I gave it to her and shut her in the crate so Gretchen couldn't get her pills or food.  She did eat it as I was leaving so she's not starving herself completely.  She's just eating about a 1/4 C of food a day the past few days.  I hope that gets better.  She is staying quiet and not moving around so she's not over working her back and stuff.  Please keep her in your thoughts.  Rays would be great!

Rays on the way.  Sure hoping you can find something to give her some relief.  Does the vet have any idea what is causing her so much pain?

All I can assume is the back spasms from the disc(s).  She's never been like this for this amount of time before so while I've read quite a bit from you guys and dodgers list, it's a little different when you are seeing it first hand. Her first episode she actually DID lose control of her back leg although it was only for a very short time.  By the time we got her to the E-vet she could stand again and it was less than an hour from the time she couldn't stand.  That time she was feeling better and back to her normal self within a few days and was more acute.  This time it seems to be more widespread but not so intense.  I think I'd prefer the intense and short lived although I'm not so sure goat girl would approve!

I'm so sorry April, it is a nightmare to go through this kind of thing. No one can really know how awful it is until they experience it first hand. I have heard that so many times, people going thru it the first time saying they knew it would be bad but really had no idea until they went through it. Even when we do everything right, it can happen. I hate to think of Cajsa in pain and I'm sure it's as bad on you but she will get better!! Just hang in there with her. Thanks for the updates I think of you all the time too.
