We let the dogs be loose in the house yesterday.  All went well when we left for work, gave them their happy pills and frozen stuffed marrow bones.  Came home to find nothing amiss except for a potty break taken where it shouldn't have been.  I stopped at a local feed store on the way home and they had a wonderful selection of x-pens, every size you could possibly want and a OK to return it if it didn't work for us.  Good prices too, the most expensive was $102.  We left the dogs loose again today.  Dan will go with me tomorrow to check out the x-pens.  Although the dogs are doing well being loose, I still think they should be contained during the day for their own safety, and just so they are used to it should we ever need to contain them due to workers or company, etc.  After one week in the new house, we all seem to be settling in.

I hadn't seen Pepper the cat for a couple of days, ever since we shooed her out of Dan's shop.  So I was really concerned, but Dan said he has seen her in the barn the past two mornings, so I guess she is okay and sticking around.  We don't know where she is sleeping, the barn is such that we figure she feels vulnerable in it at the moment.  We are still missing a door and that could be the reason.  She might be bedding down in the loader or dozer.

The horses have calmed down too.  Neeki is back to her old sweet self.  And man, is she ever looking tall.  She's just gorgeous, if I do say so myself.  The white on her is really, really white.  Her mane is growing back beautifully after having to butcher it this last winter due to a neighbor kid going nuts braiding it.  I had to cut it off, it was so knotted up.  But, it IS growing back so no harm done.   I trimmed it up so its all even, and Neeki is looking pretty good right now and shedding like crazy.

The folks next door have a special needs daughter, super sweet kid, Dana, around 14 years old, and she just loves the horses.  Her mom said that the horses have a calming effect on Dana.  The fact that Neeki would stand there and let Dana braid her mane over the fence indicates that Dana had a calming effect on Neeki as well.  But the braid job was a series of twists and knots, and nothing would break thru it.  And the particular braid job was right in the middle of the mane.  The mane and tail on a horse are its crowning glory and I hated like heck to chop Neeki's up, but it was winter and it would grow back.  I can be pretty anal about manes and tails but I'm getting more reasonable in my old age.  This is a picture of Neeki's mane at the age of 11 months.  It's currently about half that length right now, but at least it doesn't look like it was chopped up anymore.  Her tail is getting long and full, just like her mom and Patches.  Patches is absolutely stunning, she has matured quite well.
Can you believe that Neeki will be two years old May 8th.???

Sounds like they did well Patty, but I agree on the pen.  They will be fine and you will feel more comfortable!
