Ok, I've never had to deal with anal glands with Bridget, so I"m wondering what the signs are. She doesn't stink like fish or nasty. She's licking a little more than normal, but not terribly so. She's had one poo that looked really mucousy, but everything seems ok now... But she has swelling between her butt and her girl parts. She's not lethargic, or acting like she doesn't feel well, it's just that region just looks puffy. How do you know if it's anal glands?

Swelling might very well indicate an infection. Have her seen by the vet. Tell them about the mucous poo and keep an eye on her. Is she spayed?

She is spayed. Will get her to the vet to have her checked out...... just wondered if any of this was typical. Thanks for the input, Leslie.

I would second the vet visit. At the very least it sounds like something is irritating her back there and could develop into an infection. Cajsa has been having issues under her tail as well so she is going in to the vet this Friday. (THey aren't accute or new though as she's been seen for them before.)

Definatly get her checked. An infection may not smell on the outside yet.......let us know !

Will do. Ruth referred me to her vet's office since mine doesn't seem to know as much about doxies as I would like.

Found out the scoop on Bridget's behind. Anal glands are fine. The swelling I thought was there was fat. Nothing more than a fat doxie behind.

<sigh> I suppose it does. Everyone else's doxie's will eat green beans, carrots, apples, and all the stuff that's good for them..... Not mine. Put a veggie in her bowl and she looks at it like it's poop. Put poop in front of her <P.E.A.> and it's a feast fit for the princess.

Cajsa is a strange bird in that she prefers fruits and veggies to meat! Crazy dog! She adores dried beans!

I think Taffy has confused her self with a bird. She eats anything they throw out on the floor. I could probably just pour her a bowl of parrot food and she would be in heaven. Poor fatty butt....now you're in trouble.
