Kevin and I took Poldie to the vet this morning.  The swelling is definitely a cancerous tumor.  However the did an ultrasound and xrays, checked his lymph nodes and so on.  At this time there is no evidence that the cancer has spread to other parts of his body.

Whether the tumor is spreading or not, Poldie is in some pain and we owe it to him to relieve him of this pain.  The leg will be amputated next Wednesday.  Afterwards an oncologist will try to determine if the disease has spread.

Kevin, Leopold and I wish to thank you all so much for your rays and your prayers.  Please keep them coming, as Poldie still has a long and difficult road ahead.  Your support means so much to us.

Prayers to St. Francis coming your way.   If anyone can pull through this it is Poldie.   Hugs to all in your home.

I hope it is contained to the leg.  That will make it tons easier for everyone.  Poldie won't let it get him down I know.  He's a fighter!  Rays and prayers going out for you guys!  Belly rubs to Poldie.

Remember that you have a lot of loving friends out here to support you.   If the surgery takes the pain away - Poldie will feel so much better.  He will adapt and his loving family will help him.   Please give him loving smoochies from his Auntie Barb and all of us out here rooting for him.  Hugs to you, Kevin and the puppers.  Please keep us updated - we are here for you.

Awful news, but there IS a ray of hope here.  I am praying for you all.  Give my love to Poldie!

The doctor just called a few minutes ago (wow she worked late!) and Poldie's lab work is 100% normal.  This means he should tolerate the surgery well, and it also indicates the cancer has not yet affected the major organs.  It is not a guarantee that the cancer hasn't spread, but it is a very good sign.

Just popping in and was sad to read this.  Well, we here on the Central Coast of CA are rooting big time for Poldie.  He's a dachsie.  He's TOUGH.  Come on, buddy, you can beat this.

I know how worried you must be, I had to have Gretch operated on for cancer, but she came thru it with love and good care....and I know you love Leopold so much.  One of the coolest pups I ever knew was a little three legged poodle named Annie.  Some fiend shot her, and she lost a leg, but it never slowed her down, and Leopold is obviously a winner.  We'll keep you all in our prayers.
